The answer is give the Cavs 23 & 24, all of our picks & swaps from Brooklyn, and Christian Wood for No. 3 and Kevin Love. Then we'll have KPJ, Green, Tate, KMJ, and Mobley as a core. When Wall, Love, and Eric Gordon expire in the summer of 2023 you have the cap room to sign Embiid, Joker, or Porzingis.
I thought about this, if we could somehow (and sell the whole farm if needed) end up with both Green and Mobley that would be awesome
But the problem with that is who on our team is that SG that can provide solid offense for us? Wall is on his way out of here and is a PG anyway, and KPJ is a tweener. You can slide KPJ down to the PG and with a KPJ/Green backcourt that's probably one of the best if not the best "young" backcourts in the NBA for the next 8+ years. We have a big glaring hole at the guard position since Harden left. None of these guys are a sure thing but if I had to put money on one of these top 4 guys (Cunningham, Mobley, Green, Suggs) being a bust I would put my money on Mobley being the bust. That's not to say he won't pan out because he obviously could turn into a hall of famer. I just like to see more intangibles from a #2 pick that's all.
The skills just aren't there offensively for Mobley! AD, Embiid offensive skills were already developed in college! Mobley is more likely to be a role player then a superstar! Go with Green!
You can make this argument for Wood...if we lose KPJ then we have to find a replacement, kind of how it works?
Evan Mobley's post moves will get blocked in the NBA. Way too slow and soft! Compare Embiid, AD, Wood....he's much closer to Wood! He doesn't have the twitch athletism AD has. He doesn't have the post game Embiid has. We're looking at a super role player with Mobley not a superstar! Not worthy of a #2 pick IMO!
There's a ton of Green like clones in this draft. There's Tre Mann, Joel Ayiyi, Chris Duarte, Cam Thomas etc bro 6'4/6'5 scoring guards are a dime a dozen. Can you guarantee Green is gonna be the best SG out of all the scoring guards in this year's draft? No you can't Mario Hezonja was a lot more highly rated than Devin Booker coming into the draft he had more experience, was more athletic and played in Europe and so was much more proven. He didnt even last in the NBA while Booker became perennial allstar. 6'5 scorers are easier to find and draft than 7'0 unicorns. Why would you waste your top 2 pick on a guard you can easily get every draft instead of the big men only available in top picks in the draft? It doesnt make any sense.
We got 23/24 pick just look at mock drafts dude so many 6'4/6'5 scorers in this draft. Cam Thomas, Tre Mann, Joel Ayiyi, chris Duarte etc The other poster said it big men like Mobley dont grow on trees you need top 3 pick to get him. 6'5 sgs much more obtainable. Sure Green has extremely low bust rate but it's still a waste to use the top 2 pick you rarely get on 6'5 sg who isnt a freak specimen.
I think he can get there, but he's definitely going to require an adjustment period. The speed and the size of the NBA game will be a bit of a shock to him at first.
Jalen Green has LaVine/Westbrook level athleticism. He IS a freak specimen. What you're more referring to is that he doesn't jump off the page as a 5 tool player. We "know" he can turn into a solid 20+ ppg scorer. But there are questions about his passing, defense, ballhandling, etc. Personally, I am very positive on him on all those categories as well. The idea that x or y don't grow on trees doesn't make sense to me. Absolutely no one on the board is saying they'd like to pass on the next AD. Instead, they're questioning whether Mobley is the next AD. The idea that just because the measurements are there it's a given is crazy. There are as many questions about Mobley as there are Green, or Suggs... which is why all three are posibilities.
WB is a freak specimen because he is 6'5 pg and built like a tank on top of his athleticism. Most pgs barely reach 6'1 so thats why he is a freak specimen. For example how is Cp3 gonna stop prime WB? He cant WB would dunk all over him cuz WB is a freak specimen. Thats the the type of player you use top 2 picks on cuz that dude usually gone after top 3. Same with Ja Morant, Ball or Cade these are freak specimens they are big pgs you dont find them in the middle of the draft. Lavine isnt really a freak specimen yeah he got mad hops but really all thats good for is competing in the dunk contest. At 6'5 he isnt really dominant physically vs his competition he relies more on his shooting to do his damage just like most guards. His athleticism boosts his scorimg but not to the point you think he is this unstoppable beast because his dimensions are just average.
Bro 90% of the best players in the league were drafted in the lottery. Sure you can find some good players in the 20's and the second round but it's still literally like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. And I will agree to disagree with you about Green being a "freak specimen" because IMO he definitely is. If Stone and company think Mobley is the best available player then draft that guy, if they think it's Green then draft him. But so many posters on this board only want to draft Mobley because he's a big and the assumption is that we can always find a guard. I disagree with that assessment entirely. Whoever the Rockets think is the transcendent talent is who we should take rather it's a SG or a C.
Yeah, he only put up 27,5,5 shooting 42% from three.... so... Maybe the Pistons shouldn't draft Cade since his measurements are the same as Richard Jefferson and Kyle Anderson, lol. And is not a freak specimen. Measurements.... lol
Thats the point nobody knows who is the transcendent talent if we knew then nobody would be making mock drafts. We can only operate on limited info and based on what we know talent like Mobley can only be obtained top lotto picks whereas scoring guards are found across the draft. Its a given the team tries to draft the dude they think will be the superstar theres no need to state the obvious.
Imagine using GLeague averages as your argument to draft somebody top 2. What was Hartenstein's average again? Is Richard Jefferson a pg? Imagine thinking measurements dont matter, like Ball would still go top 3 if he was 5'11 instead of 6'6. Lol.
