Crazy that between the time I go to bed and wake up part of Texas and Louisiana are going to be nature nuked.
Whenever people talk about reporters being sent into crazy situations to prove to everyone that it's a crazy situation (like a hurricane is really windy), I always mention Shern Min Chow. But then you have stuff like this :
It's seriously awesome right now watching the clouds come over the bay so fast and we're nowhere near the storm. Smell of salt water, nice winds, waves lapping against the yard border...im probably just gonna sit out here all night since we get to work from home tomorrow. I can sleep then, wake up answer emails, more sleep...im just waiting on the day we get a Cat 4 or 5 and my home is gone. I know it's gonna happen someday. ~Moz
LMAO. The same employees that he didnt want to pay and help during Covid....? Then he had to go and promote his hotel and casino in that tweet? WTF? C'mon man.....
Tilman's twitter tomorrow morning "I've got terrible news, a beloved employee that worked at the @GoldenNugget (Happy Hour 5% off this weekend) sadly passed away due to the storm. #Prayers #EatAtLandrys"
We are sad to say that one of our employees has drowned. To honor them we will have half priced rolls at Lillie’s all weekend *dine in only, not available on Waitr.
The average income in Lake Charles is $23,475. In Port Arthur, it is $18,382. Outside of towns, it's almost certainly below those numbers. This is a classic example of a natural hazard (hurricane) exacerbated by climate change coming together with societal failures (systemic racism, exclusionary economic policies, crappy health care) to create a disaster. COVID is the cherry on top. There are no natural disasters. Disasters happen when a natural hazard alters the normal goings-on of a community or society. The results of this were never inevitable. We made choices that have created the current vulnerabilities. We could have made choices that reduced the potential for bad outcomes. We can make better choices in the future. But we probably won't.
The weather channel is lit. I also have a friend who decided to shelter in lake Charles that keeps going live. Good thing I don’t have work tomorrow.
When is it supposed to be the worst for Houston? 1:30am and it's like nothin. The trees are dead still, the sky is completely clear, and there ain't even a drizzle.
Being in central FL, I often see the outer bands, especially when the storms follow the gulf stream on the east coast. Its pretty surreal to see the bands circling around as the storm moves north. Its always a nice peaceful breeze with the occasional shower, but usually sunny.
