The Nationals at 14-1 isn't a bad bet to be honest. The Astros are the best team, but I don't like those odds from a gambling perspective. Baseball is just too much a game where lucky plays a factor.
How does the bet net him 7.2? The Astros are +200 odds. So he would win 7mil plus the 3.5 he bet which would come to 10.5mil. Is anyone a journalist nowadays
well he's not actually profiting 10.5. $3.5 is his own money that's forfeited basically in the meantime so that ~$7 mil he's actually profiting from the odds is correct
If you need some crap, why wouldn’t you I’m not trying to call his furniture crap, but you can’t take it upstairs with you
If Mattress Mac could sell enough furniture in profit to cover his bet, is this basically a perfect pyramid scheme? The only possible loser would be the casino right? The consumer always breaks even, or wins. Mac either breaks even or wins. And the Casino either wins or loses and if they lose, who really cares.
The consumer only breaks even if the Astros win. Otherwise they just bought furniture they wouldn't have otherwise purchased (or so Mac is expecting anyway) 2 parties are taking a risk (the consumer and casino) Mac is more or less just an intermediary. It's only a pyramid scheme if Mac takes their money without delivering any mattresses, otherwise it's a perfectly legal exchange of goods with Mac betting on the side. The only way Mac profits is if not many people take advantage and the Astros win, or if a whole bunch do. So it's very possible for Mac to lose money in this if we don't win and not many people buy furniture. It's not free money for anybody.
Mac doesn't refund the delivery fee so he makes a little there and he doesn't refund the taxes. I'm sure many people have bought additional items while in the store so he's made sales there that might not have happened without the promotion. He wouldn't keep doing this if it hasn't had a positive impact on business so he's got it worked out.
Plus, Mac could come out +7M in one scenario. The worst he can do in my hypothetical is break even ( I think). But as noted, even in the break even scenario he got free marketing and people to walk into the store. The consumer, even if they hate the furniture, still has value. They could sell their furniture or keep it. They could buy a stickley if they wanted. So, if he could pre-arrange the purchases....
He is probably making a small profit or taking a loss. Margin on furniture is 45%: https://smallbusiness.chron.com/average-profit-margin-furniture-37917.html Suppose 10 mil of furniture was bought. Mac made a gross profit of 4.5 mil. Astros world series odds are 2/1. He would need to bet 3.3 million to get 10 million back. So he is still making a small gross profit on the sale. He probably sold more expensive furniture with higher margins during the sale. I am not including all the overhead so he might ultimately be taking a loss, but he isn't losing a ton of money.
Why anyone would want 3k worth of junk from Gallery Furniture baffles me. Might as well lay the odds and get the CASHHH. Astros at -103 for the pennant were solid odds.
The promotion only applies to high end mattresses. The same Tempurpedic mattresses at the same price you'd find at any authorized retailer only you have a chance to get it free at GF.
Mac is going win millions and get another ring. I wonder if he makes a high stake bet on the Rockets before the playoffs, will he get a ring?
i mean that's kind of the choice people have the right to make. what to do with their own money. no idea why you sound so salty about it
Bought a mattress today. I needed one anyway. My current mattress was a Tempurpedic knock off that was sinking in the middle so I wanted to get the real thing on my next mattress purchase. Tomorrow is the last day for this promo if anyone is still holding out.
I was told different. Told me it had to get delivered by Wednesday. which did you get? Contemplating the breeze series but can’t get any info on what exactly it is comfort wise (cooking aside).
The official rules attached to my receipt says the sale and delivery must take place on or before October 7th. You better double check if you can get it delivered on Wednesday. I purchased the queen size Pro Adapt Mattress. Arrived while I was typing this reply. Link: https://www.galleryfurniture.com/65...c#prefn1=mattress_size_variation&prefv1=Queen
I've got a king Tempur-Pedic Luxe Breeze mattress and a ticket paying 4-1 that I placed at Mandalay Bay before the Greinke trade to add some extra spice to the playoffs. I needed a new mattress anyway so why not support a local business that supports the community. As if watching post season games wasn't exciting enough, last night I placed a max bet on the Astros run line. The 9th inning had me so anxious and hyped that I'm still emotionally drained this evening, I love this time of year!
