https://climbingtalshill.com/2019/03/31/astros-replace-diaz-tanielu/ Astros: Should Houston replace Diaz with Tanielu? Some writers are wasting no time.
It's been one series..... I get being a 'bit frustrated at the moment, but to hear things such as "I hate that Diaz is our utility guy" is a joke. We are better fans than that.
He made an error and three runs scored after the error, but Astros were still ahead after the error. If the error didn't happen and everything else happened exactly the same after that, Astros still lose 3-2. The three straight singles yield a run the next inning instead of three. Pham is on base for Yandy's homer making it a 2-run homer instead of a solo shot. Granted, not everything would happen exactly the same if the error didn't happen. Diaz has contributed to the losses, but hanging 1 of the 2 losses he has played in solely on him is a bit much.
if you are talking about game 2, then the Astros lost 4-2, if those 3 runs did not happen then the Astros would have won 2-1 potentially. Your math does not add up
All of my complaints this season are going to be by number. 1. We should have kept Marwin. 2. We should have kept Charlie. 3. We can't trust Osuna to pitch against Boston. 4. Joe West is a crooked umpire. 5. We should let Redick hit against left handed pitchinig. 6. Is Carlos never going to be healthy? So, regarding this series, 1,2 and 6.
Astros could have potentially won game 2-1 with the error if things would have gone differently. How the Astros played after the error still would have caused two more runs to score if we turned the error into an out after the fact. Instead of three straight singles after the Meadows fly in the 3rd that started two plays after the error, these would have been pushed into the 4th leading to 1 run. 2-2. Flash forward a few innings...6th inning instead of starting with Yandy's homer, would have started with Meadows striking out who actually struck out in the 5th. Phan gets on in 6th instead of 5th. Choi gets out. Diaz homers with Phan on base instead of a solo shot. 3-2. This is all make believe as changing error would have changed everything after it. Diaz made an error. Astros were still leading after the error. He isn't at fault for everything that happens after the error. Astros scored 2 runs. I think at least half of the credit for the loss needs to go to the offense for not generating 4 runs.
I don't think we could afford to keep Marwin but we need something better than Diaz to fill that role, that's for sure..
No matter what, there is always that one guy on the roster that I simply cannot stand. Dating back to the early 2000's, the guys I hated to see on the field or mound: - Mike Jackson - Dan Miceli - Mike Gallo - Russ Springer - Charles Gipson - Preston Wilson - Jason Jennings - J.R. Towles - Brett Wallace - Will Harris - Aledmys Diaz That's most of what I can think of off the top of my head
