Jeff Luhnow made an undeniably nice upgrade with the pitching staff. He still gambled on the closing situation working out and that the bottom of the lineup- Fisher, Marisnick, Gattis and Gonzales would hit. So far, this is not working out. Unfortunately, Bregman, Altuve and Correa aren't producing either. Repeating is hard and we are seeing why.
The bullpen doesn't worry me much. In the offseason, it was already projected to be very good by WAR; and now that play has started, it has the third-best ERA in the AL. There might be some minor tweaks to the pen needed as the season goes on but I'd think the major upgrades to be made are at DH and LF.
Sigh. With the way the market turned out, I don't see why Gattis was a good option at 6.7 million. He was bad last year.
You’re really saying the division is out of hand because we are a few games back in mid April? Go look at who the division leaders were at this point last season. And are you actually calling 11 games a significant sample size? My goodness. You’re talking about less than 7 percent of the season!
Perhaps our guys should settle for just playing well at this point. Maybe trying to play like world champions every game is part of the problem. Let the game come to them.
Not even worried. The core 4 will perform and the bullpen will be fine. Watching the standings right now is a total waste of time. We havent even played the Angels and it’s barely mid April. Baseball is not the sport for you, if you’re fretting that hard at this point.
I completely agree. Just want to make sure we're at least planning on hitting the ball some this season. Asking for a friend.
They DO matter. You lose some games now they affect your final standings when it's crunch time for a playoff spot.
They certainly matter, only 3 teams make it directly into the postseason, this isn't the NBA. These 7 losses will count at the end of the year. But they aren't some concrete sign of things to come. We could slump to 10-10, and still win 100 games easily.
Que? You play like this for two months and will find yourselves 10 games back from the Angels who are kind of good... Good luck with that and playing in a play-in game. I'll pass on taking the conservative approach. Win. Every. Game. At. All. Costs.
Tell that to the b2b Rockets. Champions just need to get in to win. If this team needs to win the division because the Wild card game would be too hard then they don't have the heart of a Champion. Great teams find a way so I won't care until the summer.
