The whole "all news sucks" thread got me to thinking:

    What is you favorite...

    Internet news source?

Christian Science Monitor - too expensive for subscription but great read on the net.

    Source of Breaking news?

Associated Press wire service. Nothing better though I still get little breaking news emails from CNN.

    In-depth news coverage?

BBC. Online or on TV, nobody covers THE WHOLE story better.

    News magazine television show?

NOW with Bill Moyers. Yeah, he's lefty. So, sue me. He's awesome. :)

    News magazine?

Utne Reader - alternative news monthly

    Newspaper (national/international)?

New York Times - the Sunday Times is still the gold standard for papers

    Newspaper (local/regional)?

The Houston Chronicle - there could be better but it isn't bad for a single daily

    News radio source?

    NPR. I love them.

    News television source?

Jim Lehrer News Hour - Ah, PBS. :)

    Arts/Music news source?

I'd like to be all haughty and say the Arts & Leisure section of the New York Times, but I'm not nearly that cool. I'd have to go with Yahoo Entertainment News. I'm so pedestrian. :)

    Sports news source?

Outside of CC.net for the Rockets, it has to be Fox 26 locally. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, scoops Mark Berman on anything. Nationally, I like ESPN, but mostly Berman is da bomb.

    Business news source?

Houston Business Journal - Relly underrated for biz in Houston.

Finally, what magazines do you subscribe to or read regularly?

Newsweek - waiting for the subscription to expire

    Internet news source?

Well, most of the news I read on the net is computer news, so Slashdot is where I get my news. For the regular news, I love The Washington Post.

    Source of Breaking news?

If I hear of something important, I usually check out http://www.cnn.com because it is updated faster than the others.

    In-depth news coverage?

I agree with you Jeff on the BBC. I also like Pacifica radio's various news programs, but for all-aound in-depth coverage.

    News magazine television show?

    Don't actually watch any.

    News magazine?

Don't read any news magazines really. Although I've always enjoyed Newsweek.

    Newspaper (national/international)?

    The Washington Post

    Newspaper (local/regional)?

The Houston Chronicle has a GREAT sports section.

    News radio source?

Pacifica Radio. 90.1 KPFT in Houston. Democracy Now is my favorite show.

    News television source?

    Don't watch any with regularity.

    Arts/Music news source?

I usually visit a lot of band-specific websites for music news. But I also like http://www.pauserecord.com/

    Sports news source?

CC.net, Sports radio 610, http://www.espn.go.com, and on the TV, I like Fox Sports.

    Business news source?

    Wall Street Journal

Finally, what magazines do you subscribe to or read regularly?

I get ESPN magazine, but that's it . . . I get 98% of my news and info online, or from the radio.

NPR. I really only listen to them for general stories, though...not really to follow US politics or anything like that - just the culture/world happenings stuff.

    News television source?

    None

    Arts/Music news source?

ArtNews, ARTFORUM, Art Bulletin, Art in America

    Sports news source?

    Art Bulletin

OK, that was funny. I like typing "none" ad infinitum. It is not that I ignore the news, just that - in those categories - I have no preference.

I have been trying to find a magazine to which I could subscribe that will be good for me, but have yet to find success. I want something for politics (self explanatory), culture (art, literature, etc), and society (self-explanatory) that is intelligent and not overly biased any one way. Most things seem to be either way too dumbed down for my tastes, or too obviously narrow minded - promoting an agenda.

In my exploration I found one issue of Atlantic Monthly that I enjoyed, but then I disliked the next few after that one...so I feel I am back to nothing. Oh well.

So I put "none" for many of them. Art Bulletin is all I have - and it is so very insider.
