Now if only the Fox NEWS Channel will apologize for the 30 things they've been dishonest about. NY TIMES shows they are still miles ahead of FOX NEWS in the journalistic integrity department.
This doesn’t bother me. Doesn’t bother me when a President runs up major expenses traveling either. In the larger picture we are talking about pennies.
Doug Mataconis comments about the NYT retraction at OTB: "Given the fact that the original headline made it appear as if Haley had been involved in the purchase of the residence or the procurement of the curtains, both of which occurred during the Obama Administration, this note was more than appropriate. In reality, though, this is something that should have been caught in the editoral process to begin with." Agree with the bolded statement. more at the link: https://www.outsidethebeltway.com/n...rk-city-digs-give-rise-to-a-faux-controversy/
I agree with that also. The good thing is that they corrected their mistake. FOX NEWS has made many more errors and completely dishonest statements that weren't mistakes. They haven't corrected scores of their stories. So as I mentioned, the NYT is light years ahead of FOX NEWS when it comes to journalistic standards, and integrity.
So...whether they were purchased in the Obama administration or now...am I the only one that thinks $52,000 for immaculate, custom drapes in a Manhattan residence sounds about right? Additionally, a lot of these expenditures that get harped upon (the expensive Ben Carson conference table as an example) sound priced about right to me. Many of these are used in official capacities to represent the United States of America. I agree with what one poster said...you don't want someone recognizing Ikea. You also don't want it to feel like a crappy corporate office style furniture. Am I off base here to not care and feel its appropriate? I mean, official US buildings used for high officials and dignitaries have always had fine furnishings, art, decorations, etc...since the beginning of the country. It is a projection of power and wealth.
I think it's a bit on the extravagant side, but I agree with your line of thinking.....that's kind of what you want when it comes to sites that will be used in an official capacity.
NYT puts out hit piece to damage Haley. Doesn't fact check (or does and lets it roll anyways) NYT gets called out for misleading report NYT does correction that some who read original story will never see. NYT is forgiven. Haley's reputation suffers. Mission accomplished. Look for the next opportunity to slam conservatives. Rinse. Repeat.
Did you do a statistical study of publications like the NYT on how often this happens versus publications you trust?
Nope because most of those publications don't bother correcting their mistakes and made them on purpose when they made them the first time.
I'm trying to figure out which is more expensive . . . Nikki Haley's $52,000 curtains which will probably last ten years or AOC's $3500 outfit which lasted for a two-hour photo shoot? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...g-3-500-outfit-pose-construction-workers.html more at the link
A ridiculous expense. I'm amazed how many people are comfortable with how the government wastes money.
I don't know about that. The NYT is merely different in degree, not in kind. Fox news doesn't pretend to be impartial. Folks with a worldview formed exclusively by the NYT, WaPo, and NPR delude themselves that they are getting their news from objective, impartial sources. I don't think people who watch "Faux News" are under any such delusion.
