It seems that they follow the Gorky model of literature from the Soviet Union.

As long as it doesn't "raise the moral" of the people or the party it is inappropriate and the author critisized and has his reputation ruined for not respecting the 3 principles or what is it called in chinese and censored.

I have seen the same even in the english version of Qidian.
Very shocking for a western reader when it is put out right like that justifying censorship for the good of the nation.

But this censorship isn't done behind the scenes like the soviets did but publicly and they have brainwashed every citizen to find only that acceptable art and even censor themselves.

Thank you for sharing @hezhenxiangx . I really appreciate the insight

This is something I didn't want to share publicly but have always wanted to know for personal reasons: My grandmother and grandfather escaped China (along with millions of others) when they were children with others from their orphanage by boat and landed in Thailand in either the 1920s or 1930s. They speak the Teochew dialect, as most Thai-Chinese (and other SE Asian-Chinese) are Teochew (潮州人).

When I meet Chinese people they always think I'm Chinese. When I tell them I'm actually Thai, and my family are decedents of the Teochew people, they generally don't want to discuss anything about my heritage anymore (has happened on several occasions).

Just curious if you are familiar with the Teochew people, or how they are perceived in China. Does the dialect still exist in China?, because it is slowly dying in SE Asia as generations get older

Awesome, great to be able to talk to someone where my blood line originated. Crazy to think my blood line has immigrated twice since China in less than 80-100 years (Thailand and US).

Hope you are doing well, and keep fighting the good fight! Go Rockets!!

Awesome thread. Some things that I'm honestly curious on:
Do most people believe Tianamen square massacre happened, or is a figment of western news? I've met a person from Beijing who had lived outside of China for awhile, but believed it was basically made up.

What is your view, and what are most people's view regarding the muslim detention camps, and the rumors on organ harvesting? I don't really want to believe the organ harvesting news, just seems too evil, but there's a lot of smoke...

How did you develop the opinions that you have, since they seem to be different from what most of the people believe?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teochew_people

The Teochew people are like the Hakka, a minority that is still part of the Han ethnicity but with distinct traditions.

To be fair, when I was in China and I spent several years in University, I learned that Chaozhou (Chinese pronunciation) or Teochow were famous for their food and hospitality.

Learned nothing negative about them. There are Teochow people in Mainland, Taiwan, HK......overseas.......everywhere.

You probably met some ignorant Chinese people.

    And soviet poetry.
I have seen some soviet poets I personally had never even heard of, until I saw them referenced and admired in chinese literature.
    Very interesting.

1,every chinese knows tiananmen happened something in1989 through our history textbook .it portray as a little anti-government demonstration and doesn't mention the death of students .some chinese (specially Beijing citizen)knows the army killed students but no one dare to speak out .
tiananmen massacre is not allowed to discuss publicly.making a rumor is criminal in china .(even if you tell truth ,the cop claim it is rumor)
2 . we did harvest organ in the past ,from the death prisoner ,after the execution ,doctor operate immediately .now china government declare won't harvest again .do you believe what china government say ?
3,I have Internet from 2003,that time china government didn't block foreign website .
not only me ,many well educated chinese knows communist party lies .but no one dare to speak out .money is more important than freedom to chinese

Really appreciate the ability to ask these questions of a random stranger, since these are topics I normally wouldn't want to bring up with people I know who are from mainland china.

One other question, what is your take on the internet troll armies? Are they government funded, people who just believe strongly in the government, or something else? It's quite amazing to find such level of patriotism in this day, and seems like something that is quite unique to china.
