all Spain had to do was ignore it, just like the Puerto Rico statehood referendum

although, secession is a bit different than incorporation

I am extremely angry watching this disgrace. The state of Spain has shown its fascist face.
The prime minister needs not only to resign but go to prison.
It will be a miracle if by night we don't have victims.

I think the Spanish government has had a nervous breakdown. The response to the Catalan referendum has only strengthened those who seriously want independence, which was likely a minority of the Catalan people. I doubt if it's a minority now.

As many as 465 Catalans injured, according to CNN. It's sheer luck that no one has died yet. Headline? Spain is "The Shame of Europe."

Brexit could have started all these referendum things......thank you, T. May!:confused:

Why now in this era of social unrest?

Have to side with the minority, Catalans though.

No. I changed my avatar yesterday to show my support for the freedom of self determination and expression that the Spanish government has decided to supress The legacy of Franco is still alive and well in Spain.

the EU cummission still siding with rajoy, even after hundreds of documented videos showing the federal govt using military force against its own people. according to the vaunted EU treaty, article 7 must be at least threatened, if not enacted. but of course the unelected EU whores only chirp when it's in their own interests, ie. poland

Don't know what the hell Spain is thinking here. I understand not allowing a secession, but blocking a vote, and with violence, is not only shocking and reprehensible, it looks totally counter-productive. If there was a way to maximize Catalonia's chances for independence, this would be it.

You also had some very fine people on both sides. ;)
