Cleburne Coach Faces Improper Relationship Charges (CBS 11 News) A Cleburne High School coach was arrested Tuesday and charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student. Ronny Yates, 34, was arrested at his house in Cleburne about 6 p.m. Tuesday and charged with 'improper relationship between an educator and student.' His bond was set at $10,000. The student's name is not being released. According to the high school's Web site, Yates is a football and baseball coach. The charge is a second degree felony, which is punishable by not more than 20 years or less than two years in prison. Sicko.

It said he was charged with 'improper relationship between an educator and student, not statutory rape.
True. Some people will still find it appalling though and some find it wrong because it was a Teacher/Coach + Student. No-no right there.
Yeah, that's just sick... Now, if it were a female coach, well that's just plain hawt. Also, what the heck is "improper relationship"?? I had an improper relationship with one of my high school teachers...Of course, she never knew about it...
It's not really about legality, it's one person having sex with a person over whom he has authority. I'm pretty sure having sex with a 17 year old is only legal if the other person is only a few years older than the teenager, but I'm not sure about that. Plus, that guy looks like T-Bag from Prison Break, which just doubles the creepy factor...
The age of consent in Texas is 17. However , "...It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the actor...was not more than three years older than the victim and of the opposite sex...(and) did not use duress, force, or a threat against the victim at the time of the offense" and is not a registered sex offender. Section 21.12 further prohibits all sexual contact between an educator and student enrolled at the primary or secondary school where said educator works and who is not the employee's spouse. No age is specified by the statute (thus, even if the student has reached consent age of 17, it is still a violation), and violations are a second degree felony. edit: italics
