Except for dunk, I believe hook shot should be Yao's most important weapon. It's very difficult for oppornents to defend and block Yao's hook shot, considering his height. If he could improve the hook shot to 60-70%, he would be unstoppable. Any thoughts?

I agree totally. I think Yao will be a bigger Kareem. The hook shot will be awesome, but Yao also has the step through move for the dunk that I didn't see so much from Kareem.

I would like Yao to develop a jump hook a la Hakeem rather than Kareem's sky hook or Sabonis's sweeping hook. but I'm afraid that Yao's new mentor Ewing doesn't have much to teach him about hook shot. that's why I used to pull for Hakeem to be our assistant coach.

He scored at least 4 buckets on the hook shot last night in San Antonio.

I agree it could develop into his money shot. The fun part is that he can hit the jumphook with either hand. He needs to get stronger so he can get in good position to execute the shot but he is in better physical shape than last year.

but for that to happen Mobley, Francis, and Moochie need to be able to be able to give off quick decisive passes to Yao when he flashes in the middle of the paint. There is still way to much hesitation with some of their passes to the big guy. Jim Jackson and Cato are gettting pretty good at it. Theres really only a split second to pass him the ball when he flashes in the middle part of the paint like that so they have to be prepared and they cannot hesitate even for a sec, they need to zip that ball to him up high and not at his waist. Yao is there open in the middle, for split sec, perfectly set up for a quick hook, but the guys need to do a better job on reading it and reacting to with high-zip passes, no hesitation.
