I currently bought a new computer. I installed Yahoo messenger and it
worked the first day I used it. Now i cannot connect (AIM works though). I am using a wireless connection which is working fine because I get online and everything. It tells me I have to adjust my proxy settings on Lan connection. However I am using Windows which has Firewall enabled. As soon as I click on sign in the face turns yellow but it turns back to sleep. I tried using the various connection options. I dont know what to do. Anyone who has had a similar problem or know what the problem is please let me know. I would appreciate it thanks.

The Windows firewall is a joke, and more of a hassle than it's worth. You should just turn it off.

Did you turn the firewall off and see if it connects?

Did you go into the Connection Preferences in Yahoo and change it to Firewall with no proxies?

I've had the same problem since I downloaded an update and I've tried all the things you have tried. I don't use it much, so I've just about given up on it.

What version yahoo messenger do you use? I tried downloading and using an older version, and it wouldn't let me connect. Thus I had to use the latest version. It works fine now.

Could be due to an additional firewall either installed after or before you installed Yahoo Messenger.

Can you go to the services applet, under Administrative Tools (in Accessories or Control Panel)? If so, look at what service is running that seems to be a blocker, like "Firewall" something or "Blocker" something else... this service finds Yahoo trying to start a network connection and it blocks it as soon as it finds it pinging the network. See if this works. Can you get ANY messages at all?
