I was thinking about getting an XM system for fathers day. Anyone have one? what do you think abou tit? What is the price range to get a car system that includes a cd player. I found an XM ready Cd player that I liked for about 150 but I wanted to know an approximate cost for the XM receiver and antennae. ANyone have any experience with these?
I just have an XM adapter that runs through my tape player, but I have to say it is the greatest accessory I've ever purchased for my car. If you take a lot of long road trips or just like to listen to types of music that aren't on typical commmercial radio stations then you will love XM. I like it because I live in a smaller market area and we don't have all of the sports talk radio stations that you get on XM. Plus I take a lot of trips through rural arkansas going back and forth to college and can't get good radio stations...I love it. Never had any problems whatsoever.
I just got one about two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I have the SkyFi, car kit, and home kit. I think I got all three for about $180 at a local Cingular store. I installed it in my truck in about 20 minutes (hiding all the wires) and in my house in about 15 minutes. Its great being able to take it inside and listen on the stereo too. We also plan on getting the boombox for when we go to the lake. Anyway, I highly recommend it.
One of the greatest things you could ever get for your car. No commercials, tons of channels, lots of different variety, talk and music...like 11 bucks a month. Well worth it.
XM Radio is one of my top 5 favorite inventions. OK, maybe that's going a bit far, but I do love it. XM Comedy keeps me in tears consistently.
Eh...I don't really like it. The rock stations are decent, but I would have been happier using the $200 I spent on the receiver, kit, etc... + the $10 I pay every month on CD's. I could have bought at least 16-20 CD's by now. I originally wanted it because I thought it would be a good way for me to hear new music. I'm often behind the curve on music, especially rock, and I thought the 10-15 stations would satisfy that need...they don't. They don't play that much new music, and none of the stations play exactly the type of music I like. This leads to my switching stations constantly. It's cool, and some of the stations really are good...It's just that I would have rather bought CD's that I can controll myself with that money.
I never thought I'd ever buy XM radio. I bought a new car with the XM built in. They gave a free 3 month subscription. After listening to it for 3 months there was no way I was not going to subscribe. It's great to be able to drive among cities like Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston and still listen to all kinds of music. I listen to everything from the 80's station, to the comedy channels, to the dance stations, sports stations, to a bunch of other stuff. I'm so geeked about this, I may actually pay for another unit to listen to at work, although I'm still undecided about that. Once you listen to it, you will just say "screw FM".
I always vowed i'd never pay for this service, but i admit your glowing testimonials have me doing some research into making a purchase tomorrow.
It's kinda funny, but I'm looking to buy a new car in a month or two and y'all are starting to convince me to get this installed with it. Sounds like fantastic stuff, I just don't know much about it. How many channels can you actually get with it? I honestly don't know.

Question for current users: To fully appreciate this product, I must purchase: 1. XM receiver 2. car adapter kit 3. home adapter kit 4. service subscription now, my question is do i need an antennae to use this in my house? this adds up to serious coin for something i may use for 10-15 minutes a day on the weekdays. but the fact i get so many sports stations has me sold.

XM Satellite Radio The new radio capabilities from XM Satellite Radio and TiVo, which will be available in the second half of 2004, will allow TiVo subscribers to enjoy satellite radio through their TiVo Series2TM digital video recorder, via Home Media Option. count me in as a satisfied xm radio customers. i've had mine for about 6 months and no complaints at all. they also just came out with a usb version that works with a pc...so you can use that at home or at work. it comes with an antenna and has an onscreen display. i've heard it's about $50.
Nashvegas, that's awesome. I may want something like that. The only negative is that I think you need to pay $10 per month per receiver (you may get a slight discount actually). That definitely sucks.
