Would Building a Church Near OKC Building Be Offensive?

I don't share the view of those who want to stop the building of a mosque in NYC.

But the jackholes who blew up the building in OKC never claimed it was an effort that was inspired by their god. McVeigh's last words were from a poem denying the idea of a god and insisting he was the captain of his own ship.

 

interesting point that says that their extreme views of the terrorist do not and can not represent a religion where they are a less than one percent minority. If anything this mosque, which is also supposed to be an interfaith center should bridge the gaps and bring awareness of the peace, progression that islam had embodied in the past and truly preaches and this should help the clash of ignorance that has come about in the west and east

David Koresh was rabid anti-government. He advocated violence against the government...and more than advocated, participated in it.

Unless Al Qaeda is setting up this mosque, I don't think we're talking apples to apples here. Just because someone is Muslim doesn't mean they supported what Al Qaeda did on 9/11....and in fact, quite a few victims of 9/11 were Muslim, as I understand it.

 

I guess you'd first have to find someone who wanted to build that church. Everybody who liked David Koresh that much is dead.

Christians are considered to be one of their own, there is an understanding that is already present. For Muslims there is a disconnect, an unknown or fear about what they are all about. Obvious answer is no.

 

Would you be in favor of the mosque/cultural center in NY containing an exhibition about Islamic extremism, to teach visitors that this is not what Islam should stand for?

 

I think he means after they gave snipers orders to kill on sight that led to the death of a child and an unarmed woman at Ruby Ridge.

 

You mean after the dude at Ruby Ridge sold illegal destructive devices to an ATF agent and went on the radio and said, "I'm not going to be arrested, and the feds should 'come and get me'"?

 

I don't want to defend what the government did with either Ruby Ridge or Waco. I'm thinking there might have been a better way.

No, and, furthermore, building a mosque near Alfred P. Murrah in OKC would probably be more controversial. NYC is more not-Muslim than OKC is not-Christian. And people in Oklahoma think Muslims are terrorists. The head of the Middle Eastern Studies program at the University of Oklahama probably thinks muslims are terrorists, for pete's sake.

 

I really wouldn't I would focus on Islam's contributions and peaceful messages. I just feel like any exposure these guys get in relation to Islam no less in this center is giving them respect of their message and attempts are somewhat successful. I don't consider them to be Muslims to be honest, for killing innocents, for their rule that is unfair and unjust to women over their, all of this is in the holy book they like to claim too, ye they just don't want to hear it, they just twist tit for their own political and personal agenda and it simply in my opinion is not Islam. So I would focus on what the religion is really about, the pillars, etc. I would make it an interfaith center for all religions to learn about one another to inspire dialogue and crush stereotypes and misconceptions of one another.
