How do people follow "Christians" such as Falwell? How do they continue to give money to him or his ilk...they get up on their pulpit and go on about how God will supply all your needs...pass the hat...and then show up on yachts or drive fancy cars or live in expensive mansions. Your money isn't going to the church, the orphans, or other christian efforts...they're going into that dude's wallet and you aren't being saved by a guy that just pockets your money.
It's because he rhetorically advocates for them. Same with Trump. The base likes him because they see him as their advocate by insulting people they don't like.
IIRC there a lot of Jesus in a boat stories. Even some where he hops out of the boat to walk on water to show off and such.
