Maybe even Iraq turned out better than Afghanistan, but to be fair Iraq already had infrastructure, oil, and some what of a functioning government. Whenever the US leaves I think there is a good chance the Taliban will be back in power.

The Taliban will probably be back in control (or at least have some control- no one's really ever in charge of Afghanistan). I believe even the Taliban only had slim control on some of the more remote areas (that's where the real problems come from).

Best best for the US is for economic expansion into Afghanistan. With some sort of power sharing/peace agreement, it's totally possible.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Taliban and the US have a relationship like our one with Vietnam. Where we get a shot at their markets, and we cooperate against a common enemy (Iran).
