Andrew Yang's freedom dividend is gaining steam. $1,000 for every American no matter their income. But many more are worrying, what will it be spent on? Is there a point if it's spent on garbage? Should it come with a sin tax prerequisite? Would the middle class ever vote for a policy like this?

The point is not what it's spent on, the point is that it's spent regardless. Spent money means economic stimulus. If someone chooses to make unwise purchases with it, that's on them. It's largely a distraction or concern troll to worry about what people are doing with their money (a classic strategy employed by the upper class to turn the middle class against the lower class).

No. Sin taxes already exist. The whole point is that this cash does not come with stipulations or qualifications. The taxes that generate the dividend will be progressive, however, and lean away from goods and services that are considered consumer staples.

Depends on how successful the class warfare tactic you've outlined above is.

An extra 12 or 24K a year would be a game-changer for the vast majority of American households.

Even if you're in the top 10% of earnings re: household income (about 200K), an extra 10% in cash is meaningful amounts of money to you.

This won't stop several mindless, dogmatic conservatives from trying to convince 95% of America that this is evil socialism and harmful to them though.

Isn’t it more of a concern what high income people will be spending that money on?

It’s strange that we are worrying more about how people, who can actually use the money for their livelihood, will spend it.

Not sure, but isn't that a bit more than what American tax payers ended up with from trump's corporation and rich person tax break?

Were you so concerned by what the wealthiest among us spent their tax breaks on?

The big problem would be people not spending it.

50 dances? I'm going straight to the champagne room.

Poor people saving money is only slightly less awesome for the economy than poor people spending money.

They are free to spend it how they wish. It's what happens when people are adults. They can make choices. How they spend it isn't really any of our business.

This is a good and worthy cause because it helps single moms. However, the money should be kept in America for American strippers imo.

It's not strange coming from this poster. You know exactly what he was referring to.
