I bought a new range and I now need to get rid of the old one. What is the least expensive/most profitable way to do so? It is a gas 36" stainless steel Premier Pro Series with 6 burners. It's about 8 years old. The oven door is slightly broken so that it doesn't quite close completely (though I've been using it in this fashion for months anyway). It would cost about $150 to fix, I'm told. I also took off (and have now lost) the backsplash to turn it into a slide-in. It retails new for about $1,100 new, and is the only 36" stove I know of that can be had so cheaply. Aside from the damage (and the implication re the quality of its construction), it works great. So, what should I do with it? * I could donate it and take the tax break, except charities want it to be fixed before accepting it. I'm not sure $150 is worth the tax break. * I could ebay it and see if anyone is willing to pay me something for the privilege of taking it. I don't want to take the risk of fixing it before selling it. And, I worry that it will end up sitting around in my house for awhile waiting for a buyer (no garage to put it in). * I could freecycle it, but again it'd probably sit around awhile. * I could take it to a recycling place. They'll probably take it off my hands at no cost, but no profit either. Good for the environment. * I could take it to a scrap metal place. Maybe they'd pay something for the metal? Also good for the environment. * I could give it to the appliance repairman I talked to, so he can use it for parts. * I could give it to a cf.net member. Any other options? What's my best course of action?
