Cafe Express cooks up major growth With investment aid from Wendy's, chain plans 50 restaurants The Cafe Express burgers are not going square. And don't expect any 99-cent Portofino Pesto Pasta Salads. But Wendy's International now has a 45 percent stake in the Houston-based "fast-casual" restaurant chain. Wendy's $9 million investment will allow Cafe Express to grow from 13 locations to 50 over the next four years. Cafe Express has eight locations in Houston, four in Dallas and one in Phoenix. The expansion will include more locations in those cities as well as new markets in Austin and Scottsdale, Ariz. The Schillers and Del Grandes will continue to control the Cafe Express menu, and its concept will not change. Click for entire article
