I'm sure you've seen some of the signs around town. They're usually on a stake in the ground and sometimes nailed to a tree.

My mom is thinking about selling her house through one of these things and I think it's a bad idea. But honestly, I really don't know anything about these people (or is it a company?) that put up the signs. Every time I see one I think it's from someone who saw a get rich quick real estate course on an infomercial late at night. I don't know why she won't use a realtor.

    Has anyone ever used one?

Do they give you a fair offer or do they knock off 30, 40g of the estimated value for a chance to close and receive cash in 7 days?

I would not trust anyone who has to advertise with a sign staked in the ground or tacked to a telephone pole.

I don't think she's going to get any kind of fair market value for her home.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Those guys are "flippers". They buy those types of homes and people will sell them because of financial troubles (pre-forclosure; the buyer would rather "take what they can get" rather than lose all their equity).

They never pay full market value (or else, how would they make their money when they resell it?).

A good realtor will make you money, not cost you money. Especially if you are looking at the type of senario you are describing for the sale.

Has she tried a realtor yet? I'd check with them first. Then you can call the "We buy homes for cash" place. I'm sure you will get a bottom dollar price, but at least it will tell you where the bottom is so if a buyer comes along and offers less, you'll know not to take it (be sure and factor in realtor fees).

The we buy ugly homes use my uncle's philosophy on real estate, "first you steal it, then you flip it.

I'm pretty sure his wife is a realtor.

Speaking of, RRG.....hopefully your wife is still in business in a couple years when I'm ready to move. I think I remember she does work on the west side, that's where I'd be selling/moving.

Yes my wife is a realtor. She works a lot on the west side of Houston and out in Katy. She is with the Keller Williams Memorial office.

Harrisment- she plans to still be in the business for many years to come. She really loves what she does and has been doing really well. Be sure to let her know when you are ready.

swilkins & Blatz- if you need her contact info shoot me an email through the board she would be happy to help with anything you need.
