link Personal info may be compromised for check card holders Visa accounts may be compromised KTRK (3/08/06 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - There is a warning for ATM card holders. If your card has a Visa logo on it, your personal financial information may be at risk. Also on ABC13.com: Send news tips | RSS | ABC13 E-lert | Info mentioned on air | Search abc13.com Eyewitness News has learned Visa card account information may have been compromised by a security breach. Visa is leaving it up to individual banks to decide what to do next. We know Wells Fargo has re-issued cards to affected consumers, while Bank of America is taking the same precautions. CitiBank is contacting affected customers after detecting several hundred fraudulent cash withdrawals in three countries. "I want to know who else is affected by it," said debit card holder Vanessa Garcia. "Am I affected personally? Is my account compromised? What else is compromised? What other cards that I have could be susceptible to something like that?" Visa officials tell Eyewitness News customers will not be held responsible for any fraudulent charges. But they recommend looking at your checking accounts regularly to spot fraud early.
i bank with Washington Mutual. i got a notice in the mail the other day that they were sending me a check card issued by Mastercard, replacing my Visa. now I know why!
Wow, I just got my new Wells Fargo debit card in the mail a couple days ago. I wondered what that was about. All it really said was "Your account has been flagged as potentially being compromised" or some such nonsense. I attempted to buy a computer a few weeks ago and my debit card was rejected for some weird reason (I had plenty of money in the account). I wonder if it was rejected because they assumed it was one of these crooks.
I bank with Wells Fargo and have an ATM card with a Visa logo on it, and I haven't received anything in the mail.
Most debit cards have limits on how much you can purchase (usually around $1500) but you can call the bank and tell them to extend it. I have 4 debit cards (personal and business) all with a Visa logo and I haven't received anything about this.
Do you have overdraft protection? If so watchout. I remember several years ago I let my friend borrow my debit cards and he wet and bought some food that was like $5. I got hit with the $30 overdraft fee. Most banks have this now. My limit is $500.
The computer was like $900, and I don't think it was over the limit. Plus, immediately after my was rejected, my wife tried hers (for the same checking account), and it worked. We just assumed it was the checkout girl (who was a b****) doing it wrong. Maybe it was. But my card was years old and my wife's was only a month or so old, so her purchase record wasn't very large.
" CitiBank is contacting affected customers after detecting several hundred fraudulent cash withdrawals in three countries." houston resides in only one country as far as i know.
I received a new Visa ATM/check card from Wells Fargo in February. The letter just said questionably activity on my account. I didn't report any questionable activity, so maybe it has to do with this story.
oh ok this explains why they sent me a new wahsington mutual card... i never use that account anyways bank of america hasn't contacted me about anything.
Me too man. I was wondering why they were going to Mastercard. I still haven't got mine in the mail yet. Did you get yours? I got the letter like 4 weeks ago.
