Any of you guys know a good place to rent movies here in H-town as opposed to the main stream stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood video. Places that have a lot of cult movies and the like. In Austin, there was Vulcan Video and a bunch of other independent stores like that -- any in Houston on the NW side? I am especially looking for a place with a large selection of martial arts movies (been trying to track down Master Killer).

"H-Town" is an acronym for "mainstream"...I don't know how it works out, but it's a fact.

Good luck. If you don't mind heading southwest, Video Arts on Eldridge has a decent alternative selection including martial arts stuff...or it did back in the day when I lived there.

Now THAT's a great idea for alternative viewing. Just don't go to the one on Westheimer, because I'm boycotting those assholes for one of their clerks conspirating to have me gang raped by a trio of gay guys in the arcade area. Luckily they were peacable homosexuals who didn't really know how to react to a homophobic heterosexual flipping out and swinging at everything that resembled a gay person.

Cactus Records and Video has a decent selection of obscure movies.

You can find Master Killer at Blockbuster.

I highly recommend GT Video on the corner of Kirby and Richmond. For the hard-to-find flicks, go through the saloon-style doors and check out the back room.

I didn't know Kirby and Richmond was in the northwest area.
