    It was written by activists not bigots. They took real issues and made them topics to be explored. Racism is painting a world where targeted groups act like jackasses. It's not racist when you give those groups smart representation on a show who stand up to racist characters. Archie is setup as a bafoon and his beliefs are constantly stripped down and showed for what they are by Rob Reiner and co.

    IT's a landmark show for race in media. You won't understand that unless you look at the shows that pre-date it.

    Yep. And The Jefferson's was the same premise, but starring black people.

    Both shows are equal TV landmarks, equally hilarious, and equal in getting people to challenge their preconceptions.

    None of the clips indicated anything like that. Like I said, I never watched this show. I wonder what proportion of watchers actually identified with Archie Bunker and agreed with what he said. Comments like "Archie Bunker is the man" seem to suggest this at least to some degree.
