Have a lot of people here gone to / lived in new york and celebrated new years eve there? That is one place I have never been to, and im not sure if that would best to go for a first time when there is that many people there. I should probably be able to meet a friend and her boyfriend there (which have lived there for a few years). And will be taking a girl (she has never been either) with me. I really want to go. I love austin but if i spend another NYE here I will not be happy. So really I will be flying somewhere this year. Im just not sure if it should be NY or somewhere else. Help... Suggestions????
NYC is a great New Year's Eve spot, but nothing beats Vegas on New Year's. Last year we hit up Duvet on NYE, and it was pretty good. Lots of sluts. But Vegas kicks ass since you've got the sluts and the New Year's Day bowl games to watch and bet on in the sportsbook. Whatever you decide, make sure that you reserve a table (~$1000-$1200 for 4 people) in the club well in advance, and save yourself the hassle of buying individual tickets. I celebrated NYE in NYC at Times Square on the turn of the millennium in 2000. It kinda sucked cause it was pretty cold, and you couldn't really move. Some people got there like 12 hours in advance to stand around. I got in at the last hour, since we had a hotel in the area that was blocked off for the celebrations. I also saw Rudy Guliani and he shook my hand. For me, still being in high school at the time, it was somewhat exciting, but in retrospect I can imagine it being kinda lame if you are older than 25. I think that was the part I remember the most. Also its kind of funny how after 12AM ET time, 90% of the people leave. But then there are people from Mexico and others from different time zones, who still linger around and celebrate their own zone's new year. Boston's First Night celebration is alot better, since its spread over the city and you can see cool acts/things in indoor venues. But its usually even colder than NYC.
I recommend Vegas too. It should be a whole lot cheaper than NYC I imagine. And it won't freeze your balls off.
I lived in NYC for almost 10 years, and celebrated many New YEars there. Most of the time it was more annoying than fun. Sometimes it was extremely fun, but I could still have had the same fun elsewhere. I'm glad I experienced it, but I wouldn't travel to NY for it, unless I had money to burn.
