It’s unacceptable to call for harm for any peoples or groups based on immutable characteristics.

 

There is no context where it’s acceptable to call for the death of Jews.

Remember when conservatives were saying that campuses should allow more free speech?

 

If a college president was asked this question with regards to, say, gays, and their response was something like “it depends on the context” or “it depends on the severity of the call”, is that a fireable offense?

I can absolutely see a bunch of progressive woke people saying “yes”, and many conservative, anti-woke, anti cancel culture people saying “no”.

Where do you land on that, in a university context where free speech is supposed to be highly value (but sadly, increasingly, isn’t).

 

Consequences like they should be called out for being hateful and bigoted but not legal consequences as has been frequently stated free speech isn’t really free speech if all it protects is speech that is inoffensive.

It’s also interesting you cite that examples because conservatives have frequently complained that colleges are banning conservative speakers like Milo Yannipoulis because they have said misogynists and racist things. Anyway I see now that you’re for cancelling when it’s speech you find offensive.

 

It is hard to believe that we are here. I guess they have the backing of their donors and leadership with these answers but I feel like there has be opposition to these positions within their institutions as well.
