This kind of makes me wish I was around for the real glory days of the dome. By the time I became aware of it, and sports in general, domed stadiums were the norm...

I've no idea. I found it a few weeks ago. I'm a Houston lover. I look all around at how our city is good. Speaking of, go walk sesquicentennial park here. I did it alone and still found myself fascinated. Did you realize that the original port docks were still pristine? Plus you can see the old docks. As a fan of Houston, I enjoyed every part.
Whoops. This is where I recall I found it. LA wants to make it an indoor movie studio. http://www.astrodomestudios.net/
I want preservation. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TvWn_yGaA-Y&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TvWn_yGaA-Y&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Didn't the city close it bc it didn't pass new safety regulations? someone was using it as an office.
It's being used for tons of corrupt stuff right now. Us dumbass Houstonians have not used enough outrage. Give me a year. I'll either be a pauper or on this. Hopefully I'm not a pauper.
I think it costs 1 million to keep it up right now. What would you propose we do it it? How much would you be ok with losing to keep it running? That website for the studio is nothing. There is no way that ever comes close to happening. It would be cheaper to build a whole new warehouse district somewhere than to try to remodel a sports stadium. I don't know. I think it would be great if someone could turn it into something that makes money. I wouldn't be too bothered if it was torn down. No one won anything in it. Football has like less than 20% of seats in between goal posts or something crazy like that. To be fair, I only went to a few games at the dome. I was in Junior High when Minute Maid opened and have been there so many times. I couldn't imagine tearing it down at all.
Personally, I've been waiting for a sequel to Brewster McCloud for a long time. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_ae7X544Gzk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_ae7X544Gzk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Wonder what Bud Cort is up to nowadays. Come to think of it, he's probably still living in the Astrodome.
I loved going to the Astrodome as a kid....Oilers, Astros, demolition derby, rodeo, Pink Floyd, etc... but they should implode that thing.
Didn't the Astros win their first pennant and go to their first World Series while calling Minute Maid their home?
