Don't act like you too uppity to know Mr. Charley Pride. You from Texas, aren't you?, then Mr. Charley Pride is a brook that one must pass through, he's a beacon. Don't let Mr. Charley Pride down and dismiss Mr. Charley Pride from your heart. You know Mr. Charley Pride helped you become a man. Without further ados, the music of Mr. Charley Pride!

He'd be better with some dub-influence and African chorus chants.

Your repressing your Charles Pride fandom. Just go with it, it's nature. With 90 percent nature, 10 percent excitement. Maybe it's 90 percent excitement, 10 percent nature.

I once saw Charlie Pride perform at the Rodeo. I think he might have been the only black person in the whole building.

The post I quoted just set the record for most times "Charley Pride" is used. The previous record was 0.

Mr. Charley Pride is not arcade fire. He's only a legend, despite your hatred for anything that isn't Roxy Music or something.

I don't dumb on your dumb music, don't dump on mine.

Hey kbm - don't be such a sensitive nancy! I'm sorry you took it that way; I just thought it was funny how you said his name 6 times in your opening post.

And if you truly knew my tastes in music, you would know:

    a) Arcade Fire is nowhere close to being in my 50 favorite artists (although they are not bad)
    b) I haven't listened to a Roxy Music CD in a good 3 months or even longer

It's Animal Collective, Radiohead, Captain Beefheart, Wilco, Sun Ra, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Sun City Girls, Gang of Four, etc. Get with the times, kbm!

Of course I mentioned him 6 times. Mr. Charley Pride is a fav. I'm also obviously trying to make the post somewhat funny, since I realize that the demographic of this board is tilted far south of Mr. Charley Pride. So, if I make a straight post, I'd have more people who dump on the thread. By saying it the way that I did, it's less cool to make funny of Mr. Charley Pride, when the original poster has already done so. But at the same time, I don't want people to assume I'm being racist either. So, yeah, I'm a proud lover of all things Charley Pride.

Hey, look at it this way, at least I'm in good company. The white Strips love Loretta Lynn. So, traditional country music isn't totally lost on the hip people in music. At least I think that the White Strips are still hip. I could be wrong.

Charley Pride is awesome, a true talent and a nice person to boot. I also put Charlie Rich up there, as well. Good stuff.

The best thing about Mr. Charley Pride is that he succeeded in a genre of music that nobody thought could be done. Even today. And other than Modern Sounds in Country Music, his music was some of the most important and commercially successful ever in that genre. Yes Modern Sounds gets all the praise, but Charley's music took it to another level.

Oh, he's definitely one of the pioneers, for sure. And since rock and roll was heavily influenced by country (Presley's, Lewis' and Holly's music bears this out), it deserves to be recognized as a valid form of music, not tossed off like many do.

I don't listen to country music, but I like listening to a lot of country music. I know that made no sense, but it's true. I gave up on most pop music several years ago when all the bands started sounding the same to me. I'm about to give up on hiphop now that everybody wants to sound like a damn Cylon off of Battlestar Galactica (there will only ever be one Roger Troutman... the rest of y'all ain't geniuses). One thing I've noticed is that a lot of country songs appeal to me simply because of the lyrics. It's rare I listen to lyrics in most other genres - with them it's about beats.

Mr. Pride is great listening. Maybe I'll download some of his stuff.

~~ Kiss an angel good mooorrnnin'.....

    lol.

I read once somewhere that the Beatles where big fans of Buck Owens and his Buckaroos, they even recorded Act Naturally a year after Buck did it.
