Apparently to send some adverstisements. It wouldn't annoy me that much but I respond to perspective employers with this account. Not exactly sure what happened but i was informed by a friend this morning
You probably clicked on an attachment from an email that you shouldn't have, and it passed along your credentials to some automated system to be used for spam.
It sounds like what happened to one of my accounts. It basically sent out a crazy email to everyone in my address book. Not really advertisements, more like one of those emails you get that doesn't have a subject and just some random link inside. After that happened I went and changed my password, and it hasn't happened since. If it happens again I am just going to update my contacts page by saving the email address in the box where you can type in extra information about the person. By doing this I would assume it would not be able to send out the email again since technically you don't have any email addresses saved (at least, in the spot the address should be saved at). So something like this on the contact page: First name: xxxxx Last name: xxxxx Email: Other notes: bob@bobsbobbypins.com Hope that made sense. Of course, I'm probably totally off and this isn't the problem you're having at all since you mentioned it sending out advertisements. Pugs
This has happened to a lot of people I know recently, maybe once a week i get one from a friend, not really a big deal, most people generally know what it is.
What are the symptoms? When you say "hacked my email", are you saying that they're just using your address to send people messages to appear to be coming from you, or actually logging in to use your account? I get emails from friends every now and then that contain just one link advertising some pharmacy or pill store that doesn't even have an intro or anything. The subject lines are always cryptic like "C!@l!s 4 Sell" or "Get bigger in 4 weeks!" and I know that's not from moestavern19. You also probably accepted a friend request or clicked on a fake chat or fake app request from FaceBook, and it's sending messages to friends in your contact lists.
Who provides your email? I had this happen to me on an old hotmail account I never used anymore. I logged in and changed the password and it was fine. It also happened on my gmail but gmail was smart enough to stop it. When you try to log in it says it has been flagged and suspended for suspicious activity and asks you to change your password. Gmail also has the ability to see where you last logged in by IP address and mine had an IP found in Russia. But a quick password change fixed it all. The only way I can think of for how they got in is a weak password, especially for the hotmail account since I literally hadn't used it for years so no possibility of virus/trojan/keylogger there.
gmail actually, i was first informed of suspicious activity by them, didn't know what it was till someone told me about the email, i did the steps to change the password also
This happened on my hotmail account. I have a generic email address, and figured this was how. Apparently, my dad was getting viagara email ads from me (kind of funny). I didn't really use the email account for much, so it wasn't a big deal. Just deleted my contacts. I think it still sends random emails to other people with generic email addresses. I get those types of emails all the time, too.
I got one your spam emails pgab. It happened to rimbaud a few weeks ago too. No subject, just a hyperlink. It's such a lame attempt to trick people, I'm surprised it works well enough that they bother to do it.
Happened to me last week. Changed password on account and haven't had a problem since. Worst part was emailing my ex girlfriends.
