    CBS: 'Senior Officials' Think Saddam May Not Have Survived

    "I am being told by several senior officials not to take that taped speech Saddam gave last night as proof that he survived the attack," CBS NEWS reporter David Martin said on air.

    "They say the evidence that put him in the bunker last night was very reliable, and they are confident that the cruise missiles and bunker-busting bombs that were fired at that bunker last night hit the target. So now, intelligence experts are studying the tape to determine if it is really Saddam, or a body double which he is known to use from time to time. And they are running a computerized voice analysis, comparing that speech with known recordings of Saddam's voice. But that's a process that takes awhile. So we may not have a quick answer."

    "There is considerable belief in this government that they may, in fact, have gotten Saddam."

    That would be huge, but we'll have to wait and see.

    But I can't imagine Saddam being in the Capital City an hour and a half after the deadline with his senior staff. I would think they would be disbursed and more than likely (in Saddam's case) out of the country entirely.

    I've been following this as well. I do have a question though. The ultimatum was for Saddam and sons to leave Iraq. If we got Saddam, what do we do about his sons?

    It's March Madness. Saddam thinks he has a better bracket than Bin Laden, so he leaked the info as to his whereabouts. Now he can hide out for three weeks with Osama. Till the final four, when a tape will appear proving that we missed.

    I just saw the pictures on ABC of Saddam from a few days ago and <i>Saddam</i> from last night. There seemed to be a bit of a difference between the two pictures.

    Nah they are both playing in the MidEast Bracket. They have to face the #1 Seed( the Tomahawk Missles) and #2 seed(the Airborne Rangers) respectively. Hopefully it looks like there is no cinderella story coming out of this sid eof the tourney.

    So if Saddam is dead, who is the #2 guy? Will the Iraqi army continue fighting? Will the generals surrender? Will the war be over even sooner than we expected?

    Saddam definitely looked "older" in the video and what I want to know is does he always need those Harry Caray glasses? Sweet Moses those specs probably see through time. I half expected him to grab his stapler and threaten to burn the place down.

    Actually a guy I work with pointed out that Saddam never appears in public with glasses so there were media people saying they thought it could be a stand-in.

    The only way we'll know for sure is if we ask Major. He claims to have superior intelligence sources and military deployment ability than the United States Military.

    when i saw those glasses i was reminded of the Daffy Duck cartoons where he'd throw on those huge glasses and say, "you wouldn't hit a guy with glasses would ya?" then after he got hit, he'd say, "i guess he would."

    wouldn't that have been awesome if saddam had done that last night?

    Saddam's younger son Qusay (spelling?) is # 2.

    It's anyone's guess what will happen if Saddam's dead. I just saw a scroll on CNN saying US intelligence believes it was Saddam on TV last night. If Saddam didn't look like himself (ie older) it may be from the stress of knowing it's over.
