OK gang...it's off to Vegas for Mrs Ref and myself. Any suggestions as to fun things in Vegas or particularly good places to eat? To any who I don't reply to before morning...see ya'll Monday (so to speak).
Red Square in Mandalay Bay is super nice. Gothic, clubby ambiance. Check out the Rum Jungle next door. Prime Steakhouse in Bellagio is the best steak money can buy. Check out Mystere or the O shows.
The all you can eat buffet at the Bellagio has tons of good stuff. But it's around 20-30 dollars for lunch. They have to pay their gourmet chefs somehow. Being under 21, I must say that Vegas really sucks. Especially those sherrifs who lurk behind you because they think you're going to gamble... Have a fun Thanksgiving Ref.
Both of you're suggestions have been written down. Thanks for the tips fellas. And thanks for the wishes Invisible Fan. You have a nice holiday too. Talk to you fellas when I get back (late Sunday night).
If you're staying on the strip, the first evening I'd recomend walking from end to end. Even though it seems like a long walk, at night the dry desert air gets cool and pleasant. Getting a clear picture of where all of the casinos whose names have been drilled into your head is suprisingly enjoyable. Some places, like Treasure Island, have shows out front every 1/2 hour. Also it helps to get a feel for the differnt personalities, ranging from old places like the Stardust, to the 'second tier' places like the Imperial Palace, to the ritz of the Belagio or Cesar's Palace, to the newer Vegas-Disney mix that is the MGM Grand and it's ilk. The best casino odds are at the old-school places, like the Riveria & Circus-Circus. Also, even though these places don't have the happy-happy Disneyland vibe of the newer, "family oriented" casinos like the MGM Grand or New York, New York, I found that I really enjoyed the older casinos more -- they had the vibe of "Frank Sinatra Vegas", or the vegas of James Bond in "Diamonds Are Forever". I even recoginsed several locations from the original "Ocean's Eleven", such as the cashier in the Riveria where Red Skelton couldn't cash his check in the film. The newer casinos are clearly the result of big business corporate planning. They don't have the same cold, harsh 'mobster' greed and desperation that the older places have. You get the feeling that they'd let you pawn your children in order to keep playing when you're at the older places. The roller coster on top of the Stratosphere is the highest roller coster in the world. It'll scare the hell out of you if you have even the most minimal fear of heights. The best sportsbook on the strip is @ the Stardust, another old-school place.
I was there for a Bachelor party this summer and am going back on New Years en route to the Fiesta Bowl. Gamble- Go to old downtown. They have more favorable rules (double down on any card for example). Eat- Bellagios buffet is great. Exercise- ESPN zone. I got a workout by playing the interactive boxing game, seriously wears you out about the 3rd fight! Very fun game! Plus throw the football around, sink some hoops and drink 48oz beers! Guess the beers helped offset the exercise Bars- Hard Rock, Rain, and off the strip an awesome place is the Beach. And my favorite - Cheetah's! Unfortunatly you're wife may not like that!
