Arnold Schwarzenegger Announces Classic Movie Revival With Acclaimed Director
    MARCH 9, 2026
    BY DISHEETA MAHESHWARI

Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared a new update about the long rumored continuation of the Conan franchise. The actor revealed that a new King Conan project is moving forward, with an acclaimed filmmaker attached to write and direct the film. The announcement has sparked significant interest in possibly seeing the return of the legendary warrior to the big screen.

Christopher McQuarrie is writing and directing a King Conan movie
A new film centered on the King Conan is reportedly moving ahead. Speaking during an interview with TheArnoldFans.com at the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that a filmmaker has been chosen to lead the project.

According to the actor, Christopher McQuarrie has been brought on board to both write and direct the film. Schwarzenegger praised the filmmaker while discussing the development, noting McQuarrie’s recent collaborations with Tom Cruise. “They just hired a fantastic writer and director who did Tom Cruise’s last four movies,” he said.

The actor also provided some insight into the direction the story could take. He said, “With King Conan of course it’s a great story, old story of where Conan was 40 years came and he gets complacent and now he gets forced out of the kingdom slowly and then there’s conflict of course and then he somehow comes back.”

Schwarzenegger added that the story could involve “all kinds of madness and violence and and magic and stuff like that that creatures.” He also noted that modern visual effects and larger studio budgets could allow the filmmakers to bring the story to the screen on a much bigger scale.

The new King Conan project currently does not have a confirmed release date. Schwarzenegger famously portrayed the character in Conan the Barbarian and later reprised the role in Conan the Destroyer, which was released in the United States on June 29, 1984.

Joseph Baena would seem.like the obvious choice for Conan'a son, but I don't know the source material, so maybe not.

Cut my teeth on Howard's books as a youngin. It took a long time for Fantasy/Swords & Sorcery films to catch up to the books. The original came out so early, I'm really interested to see what they can do with this now.

I know they would screw it up, but a remake of Krull would be awesome.
