did anyone hear about orioles play-by-play guy gary thorn saying that curt schilling's bloody sock was fake? i can't find the article but heard the clip and thorn comes out and states matter-of-factly that doug mirabelli told him that the blood was totally fake and painted on the sock as a "PR" move. pretty crazy that the play-by-play guy would just come out and throw doug mirabelli under the bus while calling a game

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that it was fake.

Wow. If it was painted on, Schilling really has to be held accountable. That's a really douche move.

you don't know why he would do that???

how about because the East Coast media lapped it up and put it right next to Jackie Robinson stealing home and Babe's called shot among the greatest moments in baseball history. that "bloody" sock is part of red sox lore.

i heard some local radio guys saying that he told some reporter to go check the DNA on the blood, and that schilling bet him a million bucks that it was real.

i see that angle, but just dont buy it. It wouldnt mean squat if they lost.

robinson stealing home is inside the game.
babe's "called shot" is debateable to what really happened.

i seriously have a hard time thinking that before schilling was preparing for the game he thought to himself "you know what? im going to put fake blood on my ankle and people will love me for it when i win"..

I don't know whether it was fake or not and I frankly don't care. It had no impact on the game.

However, if you don't think Schilling would do something like that to become a folk hero you are crazy.

do you remember the buildup to that game. "will he pitch?? will he suffer through like a warrior??"

the set up was already there. i'm not saying he did it. and i was rooting for him like crazy. but i certainly see the motive.

and i'm not debating whether the event belongs alongside robinson stealing home and/or babe's called shot...or even whether babe called his shot or not. i'm saying that this event has been given that sort of attention...that sort of importance. particularly in the midst of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, series in baseball history.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Even though he is not the reason the Sox won that series, he has basically been given credit as the savior of the franchise and the man who beat the Yankees. His bloody sock made him a God in Boston and it was put in the Hall of Fame for crying out loud.

fair enough and i can see the motive too, but i think its fabricated by people watching.

At this point I don't even see why it's worth caring about. The only thing in that game that Yankee fans should still be upset about is that Joe Torre didn't bunt on a gimpy pitcher.

New York should request the sock and take it to a lab for forensics

I think it was real....but i think it was more along the lines of Kirk Gibson's pinch HR or Willis Reed's limping out onto the court then the Jackie/babe scenarios.

i think the media is a little off their rocker here
