Good for them but from what I have heard the Log Cabin Republicans are not feeling very welcome these days in the Grand Old Party. Not that they ever wielded much influence it seems like with the party going even further Right many in the Log Cabin are being marginalized even more.
This is true, but the newer, more conservative GOProud has had more influence in party politics and conservative groups than the Log Cabin Republicans ever did.
I wonder if this means they can ask and can tell now? If the Commander-In-Chief gives an order to maintain Don't Ask how can the Supreme Court over rule that?
I don't know what the gay vote'll get you numbers wise - 1 to 5% of the population max? - but here's hoping Republican legislators, power brokers and White House hopefuls can recognize this for the golden opportunity it is. Obama right now, like this very second, in the very specific context of this particular thread, is looking a little bit like Eisenhower or 1960 Nixon on Civil Rights.
Considering that the Republican party filibustered the DADT repeal in Congress last month, and that Obama's statements on how he favors the repeal of DADT was used as admissions of evidence against the gov't today, in the opinion - how's that exactly? Until congress repeals it they may be legally obligated to.
So Sam, what happens if the law is repealed? Do we revert to the pre-1993 condition until another act of Congress? Or does this De facto say that it is unconstitutional to discriminate at all in military service. And if that is true doesn't it also imply that it is unconstitutional to discriminate against gays in all governmental institutions i.e. marriage? ( I've always thought that 'equal protection" would eventually accomplish that)
It looks like it's a 5th & 1st Amdt judgment, not 14th so I don't think it expands anything to marriage etc (though isn't the anti-gay marriage ruling already issued in that district?)

fify I don't see anywhere in your link that mentions the DOJ appealing Virginia Phillips' decision on DADT. Are you just making a bold prediction now to get it over with?
