I am pretty ignorant about college sports. I listen to 610 alot and of course lately its been full of UT football. I am glad you guys won (not really... I dont care who won...I wish they would talk Rockets 24/7 :) ). Anyways I'm a little confused with all of this talk about beating Ohio State and how it is the best game in UT history, etc.

I thought you guys hated the Sooners? Or is it the Aggies? Or is it now the Buckeyes? I just want to know, if it came down to one game who would you guys pick to beat?

It's a toss up between the sooners and aggs but we hate anyone that stands in the way of a national championship. Texas football is all about winning the big one, everything else is a let down.

But why was there so much hype between Texas and Ohio State this year? Does it have some history behind it or is it because they are both top 10 teams?

I think it was mostly likely the later... while OSU has a historically great program, this year it was all about a huge match up #2 v #4 in week TWO... a game that could decide our whole season...

Here is an analogy to baseball: last night the Yankees played the Red Sox for the first time

tOSU and UT are historic college programs with lots of wins, championships, multiple Heisman Trophies (MVP's), bowl games (playoff appearances), All-Americans (gold gloves) etc.

Ohio State and Texas have both been outstanding programs for a looooooong time.

But after over 200 years combined of playing college football, they had never played each other...

    UNTIL LAST NIGHT.

That's why it was a big deal.

Why is UT considered such a "storied" school? I am not trying to be a smart ass, but when was the last time they won a championship? How many have they won? What makes them such a "storied" school?

Are they really that much better then the Aggies or Sooners throughout history?

We are the 3rd winningest program in the nation behind Notre Dame and Michigan.

The Aggies? Don't make us laugh. The only reason the Aggies were even successful for a stretch was because they were paying players left and right.

After the payoffs ended, they slowly slid back to their rightful place - mediocrity.

Oklahoma and Texas are about even in perception - we have more victories, they have more championships.

    Tier 1 national programs are:

    Texas
    Notre Dame
    Michigan
    Oklahoma
    Ohio State
    USC
    Miami

Nebraska, Penn State and Alabma also have great tradition but have really fallen off.

National championships are a sore spot for UT. UT has tons of conference (division) championships.

I think OU has better history than UT but I would still consider them to be equals. A&M is in a tier below.

So there used to be playoffs in college football? Why did they change to the crappy system right now? Thats one of the reasons I cant watch college football. No freakin playoffs!

When was the last time UT won a championship? Or was it so long ago that no one remembers? :D

My god. Are you living under a rock? There has never been a playoff system.

    It's based on polls.

Come on man, Tennessee should damn well be up there on that list as should Florida. Hell, you don't have ANY SEC teams on your list. Gotta give more props to the best conference in the nation year in and year out.

Man, I thought you said "After the playoffs ended...". My bad. I said I was pretty ignorant didn't I?

But that is the dumbest way to determine who makes the championship game. Polls!!! Is there anyone that likes it besides those BCS people?

It was 1970. UT was ranked # 1 going into the Cotton Bowl in 1983 but lost to Georgia.

Playoffs were my analogy to baseball on what bowl games are. They are not literally playoffs but rather postseason play.

Didn't Florida suck before Spurrier became head coach?

Johnny come latelys don't belong on the list.

Tennessee has an argument. They're top 10 all time wins.

The Texas rivalry with OU is probably the biggest rivalry in college sports. The Horns hate the Sooners just like they hate us. The A&M rivalry is historic but I don't think it has had much flare as it use to.

As for the Ohio State game. You just never see games like that anymore. 2 storied programs, 2 states that LOVE football. I don't think you could have had a better game, it came exactly as advertised, the passion was there. I really think this will open things up for more non-conference big name games for the future.

NCAA football and ABC couldn't have asked for a better game.

Didn't Notre Dame and Michigan also play yesterday? That to me would seem like a bigger game right? Or is it because Notre Dame is not as good as they used to be?
