As I know many others on this board are, I'm a huge fan of the Simpson's. However, I missed out on the early years. You know back when the animation was worse, the voices were different, and some characters had different color hair. I'll call that the old era and then period that we are currently in is the new era.

My question is: Did they ever take shows from the old era and simply do the same episode over but with the animation, voicing, etc of the new era. It sounds stupid but I only ask because the last 3 days I've seen repeats, the shows were from the old era but I remembered the storylines as having come from the new era. Even my friend who hates the Simpsons (apparently these people do exist) agrees with me sometimes on this. If this is just a case of stupidity on my part, does anyone else ever think this when watching a repeat.

I must have seen every episode at least five times and I can't think of an instance where they re-did a story during the later years. However, after more than a decade in production, there are bound to be similarities in some of the plotlines.

What I find funny is that if they had made the family age in real time, Bart would now be around 21 and Lisa 19. Weird.

Incidentally, the voices for the main characters have all been portrayed by the same actors since the show started. It just took some of them (most notably Homer) a while to get the sound right.

I have two books called, "The Simpsons - A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family", and "The Simpsons Forever! - A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family - Continued". These two books cover every Simpsons episode through season 10. I went through and looked last night, although not in-depth, and I don't think that they have ever repeated a story plot in another episode. That is hard to believe that as long as they have been on TV that they would have surely done that. Unless it occurred in Season 11 or beyond then I don't think it has happened.

    From "Flaming Moe's"

Bart: Uh, yes, I'm looking for a friend of mine. Last name Jass, first name Hugh.

Moe: Hold on, I'll check. (To crowd) Hugh Jass, Hey I wanna Hugh Jass. Oh, somebody check the men's room for a Hugh Jass.

    (A man approaches Moe)

    Hugh: Uh, I'm Hugh Jass.

    Moe: Telephone.

    (Moe hands Hugh the receiver)

Hugh: Hello, this is Hugh Jass.

    Bart: Uh, hi.

    Hugh: Who's this?

    Bart: Bart Simpson.

Hugh: What can I do for you, Bart?

Bart: Uh, look, I'll level with you mister. This is a crank call that sorta backfired and I'd like to bail out right now.

Hugh: All right. Better luck next time.

    Here's something that was repeated:

Homer: (to Bart) son, people die all the time. Hey! You never know, maybe you could wake up dead! Well, good night boy.

    Bart: (Scared)
