I'm ordering my father a personalized jersey for Christmas. My dad is about 5'8'' and maybe 165-180 lbs. His jacket size is a 42R. According to the size charts, I would order him a small, but that just doesn't seem right (seems small). My dad wears usually "L" as far as shirts go.

Do NFL jerseys tend to be oversized/designed to be worn baggy? If the jersey ends up being "baggy", my dad won't wear it because he thinks it makes him look puny.

Obviously, this is a surprise, so I can't come right out and ask him.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    48 is a medium. 50 is a large...and so on.

    I'd go with the 48.

or for tighter fit go down a size. they are made to fit like you have pads on.

Maybe a medium from what you've stated.

    48 - M
    50 - L
    52 - XL
    54 - XXL

Medium shows to be a 48 w/ a chest size of 46. If my dad wears a 42 in jacket size (which means his chest size is close to 42"), would a medium be too baggy?

they are made as if you were going wear pads underneath, like the players. hence "on the field authentic" no matter what size you go with the jersey is going to look a little baggy.

If you don't think he'll wear it, you can get him a custom texans t shirt, he'd problaby like that.

Unfortunately, he is a Cowboys fan (I was born in Irving) and Roger Staubach is his favorite athlete of all time. So I am getting a blue #12 Cowboys Retired Legends replica jersey w/ "GRANDAD" on the back (the gift is technically going to be from my son).

I agree, but not at games. I have an authentic jersey for every Texans home game of the year.

dre- red, blue, white, miami, pro bowl

cushing- red & back, white, red

It's something about wearing them to the games, I don't wear them any other time of the year.

    t-shirts the other 357 days.

Gottcha. I mean, you could go with a 46, I think your dad will be happy with it either way.

Ok thanks. Just concerned w/ a 46 being too tight or a 48 being too baggy. My dad is picky about what he wears (again, he is on the small size for a man, so he hates wearing things that make him look even smaller).

As long as the size is right, he will definitely wear this a lot since it is from my son (who he is very close to).

You don't have to worry about either one being too tight, flip a coin. ;)
