Any idea how to fix this? I've had no trouble playing my Madden 2002 in the past, but now all of the sudden, it won't read the disc. Then, in the off chance it does, when I hit x to enter, it goes to a black screen, then back to the screen with the memory card and disc showing. It won't ever load. The disc is fine as far as scratches are concerned. Anyone else have this problem?
I have no problems playing Madden 2004 on my PS2. However when i take it over to my friends house and try to play it on his PS2 it does the exact same thing. I have no idea why. Perhaps there is something wrong with the actual PS2 console?
that is one of the most annoying things ever. this happened to three PS2's between my roommates and i. if you have a warranty they can fix it, but a friend of mine sent his in to get fixed and it took about 10 weeks for them to return it. you could always try and return it. one time, we bought a new one from walmart and replaced it w/ our broken one and just told them that it was defective. they have a 90 day no questions asked policy, so it worked like a charm. you can abuse that system so bad, it's not even funny.
Someone told me that the first production batch had bum lasers in them that don't last very long. Why'd they cut corners? To ship as many as possible. If you have a newer one, you are fine.
And they even botched that up! Their first few shipments were both late and far too inadequate as there were way too few machines to fill demand at launch. Sony really has gotten lazy in its old age, and it is showing not just in their woeful financial statements and lagging share price but in their products. It used to be that Sony products were worth paying a premium for over Hitachi, Panasonic, and the rest; I don't think that's true at all anymore.
My PS2 must be the only well-made one in the world. It has been to hell and back and has given me no problems(Besides the fading color/brightness whenever I try to play older DVD's). Never had a disc read error, freezing...anything. I even had it sitting in my car in the middle of a Houston parking lot for about a week and a half...had to have been very, very hot.
Normally I don't like sleazy class action lawyers that much but I think Sony deserves it this time since they seem to have deliberately dropped the ball: http://www.gttlawyers.com/class_playstation.htm Who knows, you might get 5 bucks out of it.
Edit: don't do that, apparently Sony is fixing them for free now, check this faq: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/playstation2_sony_repair.txt
EA Sports makes their games last only a year, so that you will go out and buy the new version each year. You didn't know that? You should consider yourself lucky you got two years out of it. My XBox scared me the other day though...its two months old, and during the middle of a game it went to a black screen saying "the game disc is dirty or damaged". Hopefully it's only the game, since I did buy it used...anyway I took it out, wiped it off with a tissue, and when I put it back in it worked. As far as PS2, I've heard of a lot of problems with those systems. That's why I didn't buy one.
we've been getting those errors on our xbox too, but only on Tiger Woods 2004 (the greatest game ever, might i add). it doesn't do it too frequently, but it's annoying none-the-less. i guess i just have bad luck with video game consoles.
That link didn't work for me. Can you copy and paste what the page says? I am interested in reading it. My PS2 has been good to me, and it really has gone through quite hell. It has frozen once on me, when I was playing my Madden 2004 game one time. My PS2 has been smashed in my bag while traveling overseas, the damn stewardists (sp) made me check my carryon saying there was no space which was BS, I should have sued them to fix/replace my PS2. It was smashed (cracked) in the front, and chipped in the back.
It's super long, so I'll just give you a better link that will hopefully work: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/playstation2_sony_repair.txt If that doesn't work, just cut and past this URL: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/playstation2_sony_repair.txt
