Nice to know my college has the least happy students! :) Maybe Holden should have gone to the University of Missouri-Rolla. About the main thing I was unhappy about when I was there was not getting to see many Rockets games on TV.

doesn't that school have an incredibly lopsided male/female ratio? I have friends that went there and they shared this nugget of info with me.

My roommate & a couple of my friends went there. They've been laughing their collective ***es off since I emailed 'em that article. Basically, as they explained it, there weren't many girls, and, if you weren't in the Greek system, there was nothing at all to do socially.

Yeah, it's about 77% male so that's the first issue. I spent a lot of time on the web reading about the Rockets from late 95 to 2000. I also played way too many video games, read a ton of books, played some bball (the school did have a great indoor gym), and later on drove hundreds of miles away on the weekends to date women that were more attractive than the single women (I think there were about 3 or 4) in Rolla. I joined the band, worked up to 3 different jobs at the same time, and whatever else I could do to forget where I was.

    For Florida State...

    #4 Professors Make Themselves Scarce
(I haven't noticed this, except for just a couple of professors. Most have office hours and are happy to take questions on the phone or via e-mail.)

#1 Teaching Assistants teach too many upper level courses
(Agreed. I had a TA teaching my Calc III class! This semester, a TA is teaching French II - not as bad, but probably too high.)

#3 Their Students (Almost) Never Study
(Somewhat. Probably derived from the others to follow, but it's definately not a cover-all.)

    #1 This is a library
(Haven't been in the libraries enough to tell this, but the one I have been is seems like any collegiate library.)

#10 Students from different backgrounds interact
(Agreed, especially with Florida A&M - a historically black college - in town.)

    #11 Great College Radio station
    (Never heard it.)

    #14 Students pack the stadiums
(When the team wins, FSU's #1 here. But when they lose...#14 seems about right, based off of last year.)

    #3 Lots of beer
    (Unfortunately.)

    #9 Party Schools
    (Used to be #1.)

    #8 Dorms like Dungeons
(They probably asked freshman this question only. Most of their dorms are bad; those for the upperclassmen are better.)

    Students say...

    <<Student Body
Though most FSU students are united by their common desire to have fun, they tend to "separate themselves into groups." Consequently, "minorities hang out with minorities and whites hang out with whites," muses one junior. "They all get along, but it s still segregated." Students note that diversity is always a sensitive issue on campus and something that needs constant attention. Accordingly, some students believe that there is a limited sense of community. Neverthless, most students describe their peers as "outgoing" and "friendly" as well as "approachable" and "helpful." >>

I wouldn't say it's segregated to a large degree, but there is some degree of that among social circles. But, the last bit of that statement says it all.
