    Abso-100%-friking-lutely.

Major Applewhite may not be the biggest or strongest QB on the planet, but he has guts, he is a leader, and he knows how to win. He could be a very pleasant surprise for an NFL team willing to take a chance on him, and when his playing days are officially over, I think he would make a great coach.

So to all you Longhorns. How did you really feel about Simms starting over Applewhite? If I were you I wouldn't be too happy about it. Applewhite was just so damn likable. Hell, I'm an Aggie and I even like Major.

RC passes out offers like jolly ranchers right now. I got one in the mail and it was addressed to "occupant or current resident." I called the a$m office to see if it was legit, didn't reach anyone, but I got this message: "Thank you for calling the office of RC Slocum. Would you like a footbal scholarship?"

Really, I think he's dropping them over every high school football field from a helicopter.

Funny how RC used to criticize Mack about early recruiting. Now, virtually every high school senior with all of his limbs intact has an offer from RC.

Please don't bring up RC. All that's going to do is piss me off. It's all one big mystery why he remains the Aggies head coach.

You don't fire your greatest coach ever. One day his name will be etched alongside Bear Bryant, Homer Norton, Gene Stallings, and Jackie Sherill.

    KEEP RC!

NFL Scouts are like meteorologists. Its impossible to be correct all the time, sometimes you get it right, some times you screw up. The New England Patriots wanted to make the Best QB in the AFC a Safety! Look at Rich Gannon now, Give that guy a decent offensive line and a running game, he's one of the best. Garcia benefits from being in a similar system, He has good scrambling ability, Good O-Line, Good Running Game, Terrell Owens. Makes a good recipe for sucess. Same thing with Doug Flutie when he came back. Tim Couch could be a great QB if he had any type of a supporting cast.

Culpepper isn't much without Robert Smith, Jeff Christy, or Randall McDaniel. Donovan McNabb is perhaps a Better Runner than Duce Staley at times. Is Kurt Warner Great without Marshall Faulk and Orlando Pace? What is Peyton Manning without Edgerrin James, Tarik Glenn, and Adam Meadows? You Have to give a QB the right tools.

Yep, RC Slocum: the winningest coach in A&M history.

For those of you unfamiliar with Major's story, he was ready to commit to A&M, but their offensive coodinator was fired, and he was never offered a scholarship. Mackovic then offered, and Major signed immediately. In his first year as a redshirt freshman, Richard "Doctor" Walton went down with an injury. With the highly touted Greg Cicero (current Baylor QB) out, the starting job was handed to a little guy named Applewhite. And the rest is history.

    Poooooor Aggies

First of all, are you an Aggie? It sounds like you might be, but I just want to make sure. But I don't know.

Here's my reasoning behind firing R.C. The Aggies have one of the least creative offenses in all of college football. Even when offensive coordinators have had success elsewhere, when they come to A&M all the sudden they become complete bumbs! I don't know how else to make sense of this but to say R.C. is holding the offense back. Obviously R.C. is a defensive genius. In my opinion, if the offense didn't suck so bad the Aggies would have the best defense in the nation year in and year out, but its kind of tough when your offense goes three and out nearly ever drive. It is painful watching the Aggies offense, and if you are an Aggie then I don't see how you could not agree with this. I went to every home game for four years and watched with frustration. I've had enough, and it seems to me like most of the other Aggies Alumni (young and old) are ready for a change.

Second, R.C. is not a great recruiter. Especially on offense. Mack Brown has such a recruiting advantage over R.C. that players will willingly go to Texas at a position that is four players deep, rather than go to A&M and possibly be a starter by their sophmore year. Looking at the top 100 recruits of the past year, Texas had eleven of them...the Aggies had one. Doesn't this say something??? I mean A&M get just as much, if not more fan support than Texas. The recruiting between those two schools should be a little more competitive.

Third, A&M has more support than just about any football team in the entire country from Students and Alumni. I could maybe think of five other schools that have turnouts of over 80,000 for a football game...and some people still can't get tickets. For all the support they show, the fans deserve more than a mediocre team. They have not shown any improvement in a number of years. When Notre Dame was playing mediocre, what did they do? Fired their coach. Why should it be any different at A&M. R.C. has not shown any improvement in the offense for as long as I can remember. They will remain a mediocre team until he is fired. And don't let his all-time record fool you. Remember the Aggies were in the SWC, which was a VERY poor conference for the majority of R.C.'s head coaching career. And even then it was their defense that carried them.

And in conclusion, there were actually Texas fans chanting "Keep R.C." at the last home game. What more do you need?

If you're wondering why I know so much about Aggie football, its because I was a fan from 1991-1995.

    R.C.'s highlights:

    1991: 10-2
    1992: 12-1
    1993: 10-2
    1994: 10-0-1
    1995: 9-3

That was an incredible run, but 0 NC's.

Ha! I was wondering how you could be an Aggie and still defend Slocum. Very funny.

Yep, those were some good years. 1991 was the year I thought the Aggies had their best chance to win it. Their defense was so damn good with Coryatt and Sam Adams. They ended up losing to Florida State in Cotton Bowl 10-2. Yet another inspired offensive performance. I don't think the Aggies ever have even finished in the top ten nationally under Slocum.

But I also forgot to leave out another important reason to fire R.C. The Ags had lost seven of their last nine bowl games.

But still, I don't quite compute. Longhorn...one time Aggie fan...what's going on?

How dare you criticize the winner of the 2001 GalleryFurniture.com Bowl? :

By the way, the "KEEP RC" chants at Kyle Field last year were absolutely classic. I was there, and was probably one of the loudest ones with that chant. :)

Also, did you happen to check out this article, DC?
A&M's Slocum named coach for life

    Hot off the presses. :p

I was an Aggie fan when I was a kid. Fortunately, the brainwashing didn't work :)

I was a Bucky fan, now I'm a Major fan!

btw, RC's running game wasn't too shabby...Hill, Thomas, McElroy.
