In Houston these places are like convenient stores, they're everywhere. But I can't find one place that will do both here in Austin. Do any of my fellow Austinites know of a place on the South Side that can handle these services for me??
Mister Car Wash does it (Not exactly south though). 5721 Burnet Rd. @ Koenig You going to Aussies tonight?
I heard there's supposed to be a Mister Car Wash on 35 and Oltorf, but I couldn't find it so I went to the one on Research just east of Mopac.
How about car inspection places on the southwest side? Anyone know of any good ones? FYI, my wife went to some Lube/Inspection place on Manchaca for an inspection. They told her that she needed a repair to pass, so she took it to the dealer. The dealer said that they were trying to rip us off.
On South Lamar there's a Genie Car Wash that partners with an Oil Change place in the same parking lot. You get some kind of discount for using them both. I can't remember where it is exactly, but it's somewhere between Oltorf and 71, I think (on Lamar)
Jeez, leave it to Major to give you incorrect info. The car wash/jiffy lube is between Oltorf and Barton Springs, next to the Racetrac gas station.
I recently found one. from downtown, go 35 south, exit oltorf and make left (east), then about a block or 2 down there is a shop after the Sonics. i forget the name but it is on the right and the roof is yellow. pretty nice people and there is a banner that says oil change for 16 bucks.
I went there yesterday and they are two totally separate entities and didn't offer a discount. I'll check the one on Oltorf since it's not too far from where I live or maybe I'll go to the one DrewDog suggested, then spin by The Yellow Rose and spend some time with the ladies!
I think mechanics are the least trustworthy people. They have a service that many of us can't provide ourselves. I went to Jiffy Lube today and ended up spending 130 bucks. Something about transmission flush, blah blah.
You got screwed. Never, ever let Jiffy Lube do anything other than change your oil, unless your mechanic suggests getting certain services(but then why wouldn't you just let him do it).
