Of our strength so far this season: FT shooting. Last year we took a lot of threes and jumpshots, which we both didn't shoot a high percentage of. Last year it wasn't really a problem since we were terrible from the FT line and only made 60 to 70% a game. Now we are #1 in the league and outside of the game in LA, we've been great. Why question is, why are they not taking advantage of it ? The last few games we're averaging less than 20, while in the first 3 games we averaged around 30. Especially, since we have added Artest who can easily get to the basket, we should average a lot more and getting to the basket a lot more than we have. Artest, Rafer, Barry; almost everybody is taking more jumpshots instead of driving to the basket. This brings to my next point, which everyone should've noticed against the Lakers: not taking advantage of the opponent being in foul trouble. I think it was the 2nd quarter when Artest drew 3 fouls in the first minute of the quarter !! It took us until 4/5 minutes to go to draw #4 and #5 and i think we still shot only 4 FTs when they were over the foul limit. Why not take advantage of it ? I cannot remember if we didn't take advantage of the opponent being over the foul limit, so maybe it's just one game, but the fact we're not getting the FT line as much as we should is a bit troubling. I hope the coaches have noticed it too and will let the players know they should attack the basket more and take advantage of our strengths; FT shooting and Ron Artest's game.
You are right, GO TO THE BASKET. Especially McGrady, since his free throws are great and he is hitting around 85% he needs to go there more consistantly. He hasn't done that against the Clippers or Lakers
