B&W bookshelf speakers 600 series are awesome, if you like muted, back-of-the-club sound type speakers.

Considering you will be powering your speakers with an Onkyo, I would audition speakers from Paradigm Titan Series, PSB Image Series, NHT Super Zeroes, Axiom M2's, Monitor Bronze Series, or Anything by Epos.

If you don't mind buying used, check out Audiogon for some great deals. The people that sell there take care of there gear.

As long as you have a good powered subwoofer the Axiom M2's are ridiculous for the price. All of their speakers are good but, again, the M2's are crazy good for little "cheap" bookshelves.

I have all Paradigm speakers, and I love 'em. Best bang for the buck, if you ask me.

Also, I second Roxfan73's suggestion of Audiogon. Used equipment is the way to go if you're on a budget, as you can get top-notch equipment for cheap. And, most audiophiles actually take good care of their stuff, so the items you buy are usually in great condition. I got an old B&K pre-amp (which I've since sold), a 5-channel Carver amp, and a 4-channel ATI amp (which I've bridged for my Paradigm Monitor 9's) from Audiogon with nary a problem.
