Need passport - no birth certificate

    I need to get a passport, but cannot find my original birth certificate. I know you can order long form birth certificates from the state of Texas, but does anyone know for sure whether these are accepted when applying for a passport?

    I think they're fine as long as they have the municipality/state of birth's watermark. I can think of a million reasons why people wouldn't have their original birth certificate.

    As pouhe stated, it will be fine as long as it has the watermark or raised seal or something that makes it an official copy.

    Keep in mind it may take a few weeks to get birth certificate. You can google "get birth certificate" for companies that will get it to you in two days, but expect to pay around $100.

    It will also take 4 to 6 weeks to get passport. Costs $135. If you need it sooner you can try to get an appointment at passport service center and pay an additional $60.

    Thanks for the responses - it's not a super rush but that's why I'm getting started now. I'll go ahead and order the copies from the State of Texas (or maybe I'll make a trip to Austin - you can get the copy in a day if you do it in person).

    My main concern was that the passport office wouldn't accept the official State of TExas version - the webpage wasn't specific whether it would or not.

    The official certified copy from the courthouse is fine.
