Pizza, he meant "another inspection place" and you almost beat me to the joke... ;)

Jesus, then go to a Mitsubishi Dealer... no? You more than likely have to get another "On Board Diagnostics" connector. :(

I had something similar in that my carbon detector died. Is your service engine soon light on?

They have to hook up their computer to that to inspect your car.

They probably broke it and now cannot inspect your car. There is no other way for it to be broken unless some idiot messed it up while putting in your alarm or something.

    I would

    1. go to another inspection place and see what they say (don't tell them about the other guys) yeah I know you have to pay another 40 bucks but thats not so bad.

    2. If the second shop says it the connector is bad get it replaced at the dealer.

here's the thing, ask for the diagnostic printout, nine out of ten times you can look up the code on the net and find out what the hell is going on. if they can't or won't give you one, you can also look at the printout of why you failed your inspection, there's usually an error code associated with it (at least here in Arizona there is).

When I failed my inspection, I took the printout from the MVD (yes, Arizona is screwey like that, it's MVD out here) and checked up the code online. It said my carbon filter wasn't functioning and when the mechanic confirmed that I knew he wasn't screwing with me.

the printout comes from the OBD. These guys cannot hook up to the OBD so I doubt he has a report.

Don't bother getting it inspected somewhere else, and hoping it will pass. It won't. You have to get it fixed, or go to a shady inspection station that hands out stickers for ~$100.

    Jesus,

Relax. Things are different in 2008 than in the year 0.

First of all, we are always rewarded when we persevere. Trust that the shop is being honest. If they are trying to rip you off, your Father will happily double compensate you for that in some other way.

    btw...

I think its awesome that you are a Rockets fan. I always knew you were.

    :)

im going to have to take it to another mechanic to get it checked out, but apparently the problem is the obd2 connector is damaged and they are not able to diagnose the car. the problem is im sure they damaged it cause i never installed anything there and no one put their hands in that area before other than inspectors. the problem is i cant prove that and i dont know what to do about it, i fugging hate mechanics they are worse scum than car salemen. i know there are good ones but ive never seen one to this day even when i had my old car with me

    I would

    1. go to another inspection place and see what they say (don't tell them about the other guys) yeah I know you have to pay another 40 bucks but thats not so bad.

question i have is any1 know of an honest mechanic (oxymoron i know) or is one who can help out a poor college kid? if nothing else i need someone who can tell me honestly if obd2 connector is damaged like those carcon artists told me. i live in southwest side so something near the loop is preferable
