I have a faint memory of an old TV show I watched when I was 4-5 years old, and am trying to remember it's name.

The show (or to be more accurate, the segment, as it was a part of some other show that I have no memories of) was about kids accidentally being blasted into outer space in their homemade spacecraft. They then encounter all sorts of strange characters while trying to get home to Earth. All the characters were puppets (either marionnettes or like Sesame Street, I can't remember), and the production values were really low. I don't think the puppets even had moving mouths.

In one episode, they encounter some living computer. The leader of the kids is convinced that there is a person hiding behind the computer facade, climbs into the computer and is electrocuted (at which point the segment ended on a cliffhanger).

It's possible that this was a local PBS production, and therefore could only have been seen in Newark and/or NYC metropolitan area (I was living in Westfield, NJ at the time). It seems to me I only saw it on Sundays, but it's been 25 years.

    Any ideas?

    The show was Vegetable Soup.

And I think the mini show was "Outerscope".
