Avoid the hippies. They're the worst part of being in Austin.

 

I've been living in Austin for a little over two years now, after living in Houston all my life also. If you want the true Austin experience, I recommend living near downtown or in South Austin (78704) and the rest will take care of itself. There are so many things to do, I'm sure you will find what you like here.

 

Get a bike.

 

Going to Batfest Sat night. $7 to see The Gourds, Bob Schneider, and The Wailers. Can't beat that...

I want to move to Austin and work for APD.

 

I really like the poster. My sister writes vampire romance novels, the really steamy kind, and she digs stuff like that, so I'm sending her this image (she still lives in the Houston area). It should be a fun time. Just watch out for bat poop. Can be a problem if you're directly under where they emerge from the bridge. I only let that happen once, lol.

 

I'd give you advice on fun things to do, but I don't want everyone else going to the same places I go... The less crowded, the better! Eat it, suckers!

For real though, there are tons of parks and greenbelts and outdoorsy areas to explore. Disc golf, hiking, swimming... Plenty of stuff.

 

I hear the water is low at the lake.

 

It is pretty much like houston, hot all the time.

 

Austin was cool in the 80s.

Now it's just an overgrown suburban mess like any other place. There's a few people pretending to be weird on South Congress, but that's about it

Eat as much quality Houston restaurant food as you can before you leave. Trust me, you're going to miss it.

 

Replace 80's with 70's and that is exactly what the oldster's were saying about Austin when I lived there in the late 80's.
