My brother-in-law has a motorcycle in Austin and need to get it to Houston. He can't ride a motorcycle, doesn't have a license, and the bike isn't insured. I don't know what model bike it is, but he says it's a small bike.

I have access to a Ford E150 van. Would it be possible to fit a "small bike" into the back of a large van? Can I transport the bike on its side?

Is there some other ingenious way to move an uninsured motorcycle from Austin to Houston?

I've seen motorcycles transported in truck beds, though they may have been dirt bikes which are smaller than a crotch rocket or a Harley.

Does the bike run? I'd check with your insurance, but I'd bet you could ride it back if you got someone to get you there.

Actually I, not to long ago, helped someone get a bike from Austin to Houston it was a Hayabusa, and all we needed were a pair of straps. All ya gotta do is wrap the straps around the bars, where the handles connect to the tire. And we used a Nissan Frontier to load it on.

But, a Frontier is a pickup, right? Will it fit inside a van?

Ive carried motorcycles in the back of a small Toyota pickup before.

It isn't difficult, just use a couple tie straps (one in back and one in front) and turn the handles to the side if you are in need of the space, but it should fit regardless.

Center kickstand down, tie strap around the frame at the front and back and it don't budge an inch.

    it *should*

Unless the bike has severe apehangers (tall handlebars) it should be low enough to fit.

You could rent a small bike trailer for around $40 per day. Easier to load and pull.

Can't you just get the measurements for the bike and make a judgment? I don't know about E150's, but does it have any kind of floor mounts or attach-points for straps? I don't see why you should have problems getting the thing in since the E150 is a cargo van, right? At worst, I would think you could remove any seats if you need to. The most important thing I would guess would be strapping the sucker down. You may have seen these links already, but :

what kind of bike is it? Is it safe to ride?

I have a motorcycle license

Most motocycles will ft in a 6.5' bd with the tailgate down. You tie the forks or triple clamp down with rachet straps or cam buckle straps and compress the front suspension. One strap per side of the front end.
The rear can bounce around all it wants to (it won't) but the bike won't be going anywhere.

The bike will easily fit in a 15 passenger van, unless it has monster ape hangers or something.

Rent a bike trailer from UHaul. I've done this multiple times, easy as can be.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. The bike is in fine shape, but not insured. I know someone who could ride it down, but I don't want them to do that without insurance.

You can get liability insurance for a year for around $100 bucks.
