According to USA Today in today's edition, Mobley is in the top five in scoring since the all-star break at 25.9. The four above him are O'neal, AI, Pierce and Tmac. This is what I call elite company, when you consider there is not Carter, Kobe or Wally, in that mix. In addition, I took the time to look at his season numbers compared to other SG's and they have nothing on him. I am talking about Allen, Wally, Stack, Finley, the guy in Sacramento, Houston, etc, etc. I feel comfortabe in saying that Mobes has arrived. For a 2nd rounder, very impressive indeed. As we go into the off season and next season, Mobes should get his own respect as opposed to being a Wink sidekick.
Too bad our first round picks that year couldn't produce half of what Mobley does. But hey, I can't complain about Cat's output for the price we paid. He's dirt cheap to other players of comparable talent levels. Now if only he can keep this up next year and raise his fg% to a steady 45%-47% he might have a chance at an All-Star game. Too bad the voting isn't like the Road to Rocketsville for the All-Star game. If it was we could just ask all the Bullard fans to help get Cat in the All-Star game. B
Next year we might have more scoring options on the floor, so Cat's scoring numbers might go down. Then again, maybe not. He's been really smooth lately.
Yeah, the Cat's play has been a lot better as of late. I can see where your coming from ROXTXIA. With MoT coming back and the hopefully emergence of Griffin being a consist scorer we should have a more well rounded offense.
I think what he means when he mentions Wally's name is that Wally and the rest of the guys he mentioned made it to the all-star game. Cuttino has stepped up big time. With him and The Franchise all we need is a good and healthy big man, and we will have it made! -Junkyard Dog PS - Mo get well soon!!!
a little too far. you might have a legitimate 3rd team argument though. But with Kobe and AI both playing SG, no way you can put Mobley anywhere above 3rd team, which would be amazing in itself. I don't even expect Francis to get 3rd string, given his injuries this year.
I could be wrong, but I don't think they break it down by position any lower than guard, forward, and center. So I believe two shooting guards, or two point guards, could make it on the same team. Not sure whether that helps or hurts Mobley though.
Cat is underrated, He might get a couple votes for 3rd team, Even Eddie Jones would make it over Cat any day of the week.
I don't think it would really matter anyway, when you consider the other guards in the league. You have Kobe and Iverson, but then there is also Kidd, Payton, Andre Miller, Francis (not considered cause of injury??), Jordan (see Francis), Carter, Pierce etc. etc. 2 things that need to be remembered: 1) Selection is not based on your numbers in the second half of the season only. 2) Scoring/field goal % isn't the only things considered. Besides the other individual categories (rebounding, steals, blocks etc.), I think they also consider teams win-loss record as well. (But I could be wrong on that) Having said that, should Mobes be able to continue putting up these kind of numbers throughout next season, and the Rox win-loss record goes up, he could quite easily make the 3rd/2nd All-NBA team.
How in the hell did Wally make the All-Star team and Cat didn't? I am aware of the record of each team but other than that I see no reason Wally should have made it.
Hopefully not this year. Jones is what I would label as "perenially underrated" but he really hasn't been that impressive this year.
