Make and Model: 91 Eagle Summit The Issue: The car does not accelerate beyond 40 MPH. The Acceleration is relatively slow. My 1st thought is Fuel Injector or maybe the Transmission. I like to know a little about the problem before I approach a Mechanic. Rocket River
Does the engine rev high (rpm) at 40mph? If it does, then I'd say it's the transmission (it won't shift into the next gear). If it doesn't, it could be a number of things, but transmission would not be on the top of the list. It that point I suspect the computer module, but a real mechanic would have to tell you. I wouldn't suspect a FI because even if 1 or more has gone bad, it would be a dog, but eventually it would get up to speed. I'm not a mechanic on the new cars, I just know the old car basics, so take the info above with a grain of salt.
How does the motor react when you try to accelerate past 40? does it cough and sputter? or just sound like it is tryin and not getting anywhere? how does it run under 40? accelerate and run good until it reaches 40? there are numerous reasons why....but more info would be helpful to narrow it down a little...
