Lyle Lovett's leg broken by bull
    Associated Press

Country singer Lyle Lovett was apparently trampled by a bull and broke his right leg today, a spokeswoman at Memorial Hermann Hospital said.

Lovett was undergoing surgery Wednesday night to repair the fracture, said hospital spokeswoman Beth Sartori.

"He came in by ground ambulance," she said. "He was in good condition on arrival."

Hermann is the main trauma center at Houston's world-famous Texas Medical Center, which includes 42 medical institutions.

Lovett's spokesman Vance Knowles of InKlein Productions didn't immediately return a call for comment.

Besides his musical career, Lovett is also known for his 21-month marriage to actress Julia Roberts.

Fred Bohlander, who books shows for Lovett, said he had no idea the singer had been hospitalized.

"This is the first I've heard of it," Bohlander said Wednesday evening.

Lovett, a Grammy-award winning singer, was born in Klein, near Houston, and graduated from Texas A&M University before turning to music.

His hits include "If I Were The Woman You Wanted" and "San Antonio Girl."

Lovett won his first Grammy in 1989 for his album, "Lyle Lovett and his Large Band." He won a second Grammy in 1993 for his duet with Al Green, "Funny How Time Slips Away."

He won two more Grammys in 1994 for "Blues for Dixie" and 1996 for his album "The Road to Ensenada."

I heard this on the radio this morning. Apparently they have put 20 or so pins in his leg to stabilize the bone. He will be out of the hospital by the weekend, but he will be recovering for the next 6-8 months. His leg got trampled because his Uncle was in the bull ring when the bull started to get a little crazy. Lovett pushed his Uncle out of the way but couldn't get out of the way himself. The people on the radio were calling what he did "heroic", because he probably saved his Uncle's life. His Uncle was treated for chest pains afterwards as well.
